It baffles me why people declare small mods to their insurance. What difference will it make apart from not claiming for it if you find yourself in an unfortunate situation.

I ordered my beemer without factory tint as bmw do not offer limo black tints. Also put an after market 19" black concave wheels, again not an option with bmw. When a lady van driver ran into me, my insurance took my car and repaired it without questioning me about the tints nor the wheel. And these are mods I didn't declare.

Manders - if you really want the wrap, put yourself as a named driver and get an older person to insure it. Stop faffing about with the fronting excuse.

I'm 33 and currently pay £4580/yr for my RRS, whilst my mate(same age) with a camouflaged wrapped G65 g-wagon pays £500 just cus he isn't living in the capital.

Probably the worst advice I've seen on this section of the forum:(

All well and good not telling them, until you knock over someone, or off a bicycle, and the insurance company are faced with a multi multi thousand pound claim.......

But hey your car was unique. You need to get your priorities straight mate. Sorry for sounding harsh it doesn't seem like your taking this seriously. AN EXHAUST IS A PERFORMACE ENHANCING MODIFICATION

The simple rule for mods is....if you change ANYTHING from the day you pick it up then You need to tell your insurance company.

I've been through the whole sitting right until I was 25 to get lower insurance.

If I was in your shoes I'd be happy as a pig in shit getting a mustang without modding it straight off the bat.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I really feel for you not being able to do what you want to your car but i guess this is the downside for having the gift of youth.

Back when i had my WRX a lot of companies wouldn't cover me for theft unless i fitted a tracker. Surprised a company wouldnt offer you the option of dropping theft cover in return for a lower premium, assuming your mods were cosmetic only. You said you had money to fall back on.

I have plenty of money. There's a difference with having it and wanting to use it for stupid things like losing it all on insurance.

I've informed insurance of trackers on car, security in house etc. Takes it up.

At 21 I had a 1.1 fiesta Ghia, and I considered myself lucky.....

One should properly understand ones post before commenting. Never mentioned exhaust nor any performance upgrade - of course you should pay for those. I said "small mods" and by that I mean aesthetically pleasing.

For example, I originally ordered a RRS svr but the flipping car was so loud because of the quad exhaust and never a fan of the bucket seats. Had to change to a supercharged which is less noisy but only regret is missing out on the 542bhp as opposed to the 510 I have. But I won't go adding something to make it more powerful.

R8 was stolen years back (maybe 6 now?). As for my area, the area massively helps my insurance. If I put it on a city like lichfield it's about 900 quid more.


Can we stop thinking I'm some ungrateful twat. I'm just a twat. I'm extremely blessed to be I'm the position I am I'm car wise. Wrap wise is a big spanner in the works. Just to eradicate that thought.
