Upgrading my Speaker system on my 2017 Mustang. Current setup are:
1000 Watt Skar Amp
4x 200 watt speaker

I was able install the rear speakers no problem. But the front one I am trying to avoid running a speaker wire through the door. I found which wires I needed to tap Into behind the radio dash but they look very skinny. I believe they are only 18 Gauge and my speaker wires are 14 Gauge. Will there be any problem connecting them?

I'm running 150W RMS through the factory door wiring without a problem. There will be voltage drop but likely not an audible difference

Okay perfect:
I was more concerned about fire hazard I notice they were soo tiny. Should I just purchase 18 gauge wire to connect from amp to the factory 18 gauge wire instead of going from 14 amp gauge wire to the factory 18 gauge wire?

These are the spec of the speakers I’m running
  • Premium 2 Way Component Speaker System
  • Frequency Response :42-20,000 Hz
  • Sensitivity : 92 dB
  • RMS Power : 200 Watts (Pair)
  • Max Power : 400 Watts (Pair)

This is the amp I’ll be running:
  • Skar Audio RP-150.4AB Multichannel Amplifier
  • Class AB 4 Channel Amplifier
  • 4 Way Protection Circuitry : Thermal, Voltage, Speaker, DC
  • RMS Power @ 4 Ohms : 150 Watts x 4 Channels (14.4v)
  • RMS Power @ 2 Ohm : 250 Watts x 4 Channels (14.4v)
  • RMS Power @ 4 Ohms (Bridged) : 500 Watts x 2 Channels (14.4v)
  • MOSFET Power Supply
  • Soft Turn on Circuit
  • Tri-Mode Capable / Bridgeable
  • Frequency Response : 20Hz~20kHz
  • Signal to Noise Ratio : 105dB
  • Low Pass Filter (Variable) : 50Hz~500Hz
  • High Pass Filter (Variable) : 20Hz~5kHz
  • 4 Gauge Power and Ground Terminals
  • Working Voltage : 8.5V-14.4V
  • Fuse Rating : 120 Amp
  • Dimensions : 19-1/4" (Length) x 7" (Width) x 3" (Height)

Very similar to mine. I ran 18AWG all the way from the amp with "speedwire" 9 conductor wire to make it nice and easy. No complaints. It's not *correct* but it was too much hassle to run wire through the doors and wasnt worth it to me.

And that's saying something with your system. :D

I thought about running new wire to my speakers, then I looked at it and went "nope."
