Like many places, we only get 91 Ron.
the other day I walked past the printing press at work and saw a drum of Ethanol standing there.
Then It hit me, isn’t that the stuff they use in E85 ?

so it got me thinking. As I have a endless supply at hand, couldn’t I do my own mix ?
91 Ron + Ethyl alcohol of 99.9% purity denatured with 5% (volume) ethyl acetate.

Any chemists or fuel specialists on this site that old care to comment ?

This would solve my boost cap. Just mix in a certain % with my tank of 91 . Thoughts ?

Too risky, it would require you to test your fuel (91) everytime you fill up since you dont know if the blend changes during seasons. And everytime you finish the barrel of ethanol and acetate you will also need to test those. I think it will get old pretty quickly.

I hear you, but mixing in octane boosters is also a pain? What worries me more is that I cause engine damage.
perhaps try it in my lawnmower first haha

Seem reasonable to me. I can't see how you could mix it yourself for less after buying straight ethanol and gasoline. You also get better consistency this way, sometimes what you can get at local pumps (if you even have one) is variable. I know the one station here regularly reads around E70 in reality. Compared to $6 a gallon for E98 that's always pretty much exactly that.

If you have a setup that needs it, it's not too bad. Cheaper than traditional race fuel, lol. With that said I was wracking my brain trying to think of a way you could do this cheaper, but I re-read OP's post and he said he can just take drums of pure ethyl acohol home for free (I don't know how since they run like $800 per drum) and mix himself. Well in that case, if it's free, no real reason not to mix it yourself. Just need the equipment to verify percentages and know the ideal mixing ratios and such, which I'm sure is online somewhere.

I own a 2020 eco boost ranger. Ive been mixing 87 octane & e85 for a year now for a cheap octane boost. As they are ruffly the same price here in New Jersey. 93 octane is about a dollar over 87. So the saving for me in a year is substantial. The adaptive learning on the pcm compensates and all has ran well. Pure ethanol has an octane rating of about 113. So you personally wouldn’t have to ad more than a gallon or two to get to an e25-e30 mix. ethyl acetate is considered a fantastic fuel additive by people in the drag racing world. I’d recommend you buy a cheap e85 tester. And give the fuel you’re using a quick shake test. Just don’t ad a ton of ethyl acetate as it requires a bigger fuel pump and injectors when the percentage of ethanol get to high due to the volume difference between alcohol and gasoline.

its my company but i wouldn't just take drum after drum.
At most i would add 2 gallons, circa 8 liters per tank.
My thought was a 10 to 15% mix to help detonation for the planned Hellion.
As i stated in another thread, water meth could be an alternative.
you guys that get E85 are damn fortunate !

This is exactly the info I was looking for.
I read that 15% is max unless you have a map/ injectors. ?

I will probably run 6 or 7 psi when on standard 91 AKI [USA grading] or up it a higher figure if I add the ethanol. A lot of info will have to be gathered before i risk my motor.

I wonder if anyone with the S550 is doing same ?

Water/meth is a better option for a boosted car. Over mixing your own fuel. I’ve run that In the past on a big turbo SRT-4 I used to own. I’d go that route over mixing my own fuel If I were you. A lot of tuners will write you a water/meth tune. And the meth kits out today are top notch. You could always throw a gallon of ethanol in your tank just as a secondary safety precaution.
