Hi,

I've recently swiped my car and benefitted from the upgrade to Sync 3.

Unfortunately the dealer lost the hand book (they've got a new one for me now) but it will be a while before I get round to picking it up. So in the meantime, I just had a couple of queries that you some of you might be able to help me with.

1) Nav Card? - Does the Sync 3 system use an SD card like the one in Sync 2? I can't see a slot for it.

2) Traffic information. Is this any good or reliable - how does it compare to Google Maps for example?

3) 'Caution' - Can you set this so it gives you the warnings for speed cameras etc when you have a destination set but NOT when you're not using nav. Ever since I first tried it out, it seems to warn me all the time regardless of whether I'm using the nav or not. - It's a bit annoying when you're on a regular route and know the roads anyway.

Thanks!

1) no sync 3 has a built in HD you update it via a usb stick
2) for my usage in the last couple of years its very accurate
3) no it warns all the time even with no destination set only way to stop it is to turn off warnings full time until you actually want them on.

Google Maps is always going to be better as it has real time traffic information from other people using Google Maps and monitors their speed etc. Waze is what you need for speed camera etc, although this is going to be shortly integrated into Google Maps.
Built in sat nav systems are only there as a backup in case phone is not working
Although, the more people that use in built sat nav systems the better for me as it means less people following the alternative routes suggested by Google etc

Yes, I often think that with Google, does it send all users the same route? It should distribute evenly to be fully efficient. On one particularly bad commute, it sent me the most awkward route imaginable and there were loads of people doing the same. Bet they were all on Google maps.

I seem to be in the minority but I get on really well with the Nav on Sync3 and prefer it to alternatives. Android auto and Apple Carplay are both supported anyway

No, It changes depending on traffic and the average speed people are travelling compared with the normal speed. Maybe your phone didn't update or you didn't have signal? You'd be surprised, a lot of people still use outdated in car sat navs or AA maps!

Anyway, it's all academic. There are far too many cars on the road in this country now to not hit traffic.

Unless you live in the Scottish borders. But the sound of duelling banjo's can become annoying.
