Any thoughts between Studless Ice and snow tires vs performance winter tires in Chicago winter. I know that the studless tires will be better but how much better than the Performance tires. How much better would they be in deep know snow?

I live near Detroit michigan, our conditions are similar. I chose performance winter tires (Blizzak LM-32s) because we have a much larger percentage of cold weather with normal pavement. When it does snow and ice shows up, they give me a ton of confidence as well. Basically, a performance winter tire will handle much better on dry, cold pavement while maintaining control in the snow. I've already experienced about 4 inches of unplowed snow and ice, they serve well.

Did you put the winter tires on your stock wheels? Or get another set

4 inches was not in south east, I was up a little further north for a weekend. I got separate rims for the winter tire set
