I want to get a D style steering wheel with greater girth for my GT. The options are plentiful but I don't know which way to go. I would appreciate some feedback.

1. CJponys has a contoured D ring wheel and it's crazy cheap. But I question the quality of the wheel and the material. I also don't know how I feel about the contours both for the thumbs(10 and 2) and around the circumference (5 and 7). Looks to be thinner than necessary in those places.

2. I can pickup a GT350R wheel from a local dealer but I want to stay away from the alcantara because I feel it will wear out pretty quick since I use my car daily. But I love the smooth contours and that it's a stock look.

3. I can buy a used GT350 wheel and have it reupholstered in a nice quality leather to my specs. May be cheaper than the next option.

4. Beith Performance makes a wheel ready to go, which basically mirrors option 3 and I was curious what everyone's thoughts are on the quality. What I don't like is that it has those strange contours at 7 and 5. It's definitely the most expensive option.

Not really sure what to do.

I have the CJ wheel that you linked, except in full leather as I didn't want the hassle of the alcantara either. The wheel itself is OEM quality, and the leather seems to be just as nice, if not better than OEM. The CJ wheel is much firmer and has finger indents built in around the top backside of the wheel. Due to the contouring at 9 & 3, this part of the wheel ends up feeling slightly thinner than the OEM wheel. I also had reservations about the shape at 5 & 7, and while it has taken some getting used to, I don't seem to notice now.

I simply wanted something different, and for the money, am happy with the wheel. I also considered the Beith wheel but couldn't bring myself to pay that price. Also considered doing a used 350 wheel and having it wrapped, but I don't live where there are plentiful upholstery shops that I would have trusted to do the quality of work that I would have expected.

Hope this helps.

Maybe you could do me a small favor?

Could you take some pics of your hand in various positions on the wheel. I just want to see what it actually looks like when grabbing it in those contours at 3 and 5 and 12.

On another note: the description of the beith wheel says it's thicker than the gt350. It looks substantially thicker. Anyone know how much thicker over stock?

Wow. That's pretty substantial. But I think that may be the style you picked. It looks like they offer slimmer ones. At least from what I gathered from the initial thread where they showcased and shipped the first wheels.

Please post some pics when you get it installed. I have been thinking about buying that wheel also.
If your thinking about it do it now. They have one left at the sale price. Worst case if you do not like it, return it.

They had one left when I ordered too. Something tells me one left is the new "going out of business" sale tactic for many stores in ebay.

This is where we are supposed to berate you for putting a cobra on a car that is not a Shelby. Well, screw that, I think it looks great too :like:

Is that a stick on cobra emblem?

And if yes, doesn't that affect the airbag deploying?

This is a stick on emblem. And I probably does affect the airbag. But who cares. If it deploys it will probably just fly off in to my face. Lmao
