Something similar happened to me and I nearly had my licence revoked, most of the tickets I've received I have truly deserved. An un-marked police car speeding and cutting people off to get behind me and tail gate me till I sped to try to get away from what I thought must be some lunatic was too much. Lawyer saved my ass and the cops got a stern warning from the judge for tampering with evidence. (Amazingly the camera was 'malfunctioning' while they did the illegal stuff to get behind me and miraculously fixed it'self when I started speeding away) I'll own my mistakes but that one was bullshit.
I now have legal insurance and drive with a dash cam with GPS which has saved me again, though that's a story for another thread.
Most people who get caught really deserve it, and god knows my lawyer and dumb luck have saved me from some I did deserve. Most cops are good honest people just doing his or her job but there are some rotten apples out there who see a young man in a fast car and figure they are punishing you for stuff you didn't get caught for or will do in the future, or are just plain assholes.
Get the Lawyer, it costs more in the short run but is worth it in the long run. Tell your side of the story honestly (He may have had a dash cam if you were speeding but it sounds like he didn't) If he's bull shitting and has no proof he won't show for court 99% of the time because your word against his with no proof will get you a warning and court costs only and him a wasted day where he's going to look really bad.
