Are your costs always so high? Im buying $90 worth of O2 spacers, which surely wont weigh 1 lb and shipping ground is $23.35. Thats impressively bad

From my location, shipping is often reasonable. But sometimes, no. There have been a few instances where, seeing the shipping costs, caused me to stop, regroup and source from somewhere else.

I can think of a few factors.

Some companies combine shipping and handling into one fee. Shipping could be fair, but they then include a charge for someone to pull the part, box and label it.

Fuel prices, while not as elevated as last year, as still somewhat high.

What people receive, how much and how often has changed the last several years. A sea change. It seems I used to have more options: overnight, business, second/third class and freight. Now, it only seems to be overnight and business. For shipping most items, UPS and FedEx carry between points, then 1) deliver at the ends, or, 2) hand off to USPS. USPS does ship, but not near as much as commercial.

Physical locations. If they are two end points, like Houston and LA, it's probably cheaper than a route involving many interconnections or where one end is off the beaten path.

Fees at airports. Airports charge for space, like parking. One or both ends might involve high pricing, which FedEX, UPS or USPS pass on.

Like most, I shop around. I will also either wait for sales, which often involve free shipping, or combine multiple small purchases, if possible, to trip free shipping.

I understand all the possible issues. And I am certainly not gonna blame fuel, when it is down 30% ish from what i have seen. I was looking for lethal to provide some specific input on if this seems normal or not. I have bought thousands of dollars in parts for my car in the last few months from 6-8 different vendors, and a ton of stuff for my new house. At no point was shipping anywhere near $23 for 1 lb to the dead middle of the country.
