The reverse ring/collar on my shifter buzzes a lot from transmission vibration mainly in the 1st 3 or 4 gears.

I know you can replace the knob, but that would not help this issue. Is it possible to put some kind of rubber sleeve or o-ring to quieten it?

Must not be a wide spread issue as I have not seen it mentioned.

You could install our shifter and all your problems will go away.:D Haha

More to your question though. It's actually VERY common for the stock reverse lockout to buzz. If you check out the video below, around the 10 minute mark I show why.

The easiest way to help keep the stock shifters reverse lockout from buzzing is a rubber band. It needs to be tight enough that it holds the plastic piece securely to the shifter but loose enough that it will still slide up and down freely.
