Check out this link. Chief Ford engineer even states that CAIs don't improve performance at all. Even a canned SCT tune will improve performance. Even more so with a custom one from Lund, VMP, etc.

The stock intake setup is a true 'cold air intake'. Going to an open element filter is a 'hot air intake'. The stock airbox isnt a restriction. :ford:

Curious. Why does Ford Racing use the GT350 CAI for their FRPP 2 and FRPP 3? Why don't they just keep the stock air box?

Probably to sell parts.

They also run the 350 throttle body - not really needed either.

Regarding Cold Air Intakes and performance gains, you will see little to no gains on a "no tune required" intake because your essentially bringing in and burning the same amount of A/F as the stock box. The only real change you'll see on a "NTR" intake is the sound.
If you intstall a "Tune-Required" Intake and you tune the car according to intake size, you will see some gains because its boils down to simple math. More air+more fuel= larger combustion.
