I can so sympathize with the op. Sounds like something I’d do. For instance, the time I used a harbor freight torque wrench on my strut tower brace stud. It didn’t go well for me either.[/QUOTE]

It is easy to burn through the clear coat unless a DA Orbital buffer is used. I bought a clear coat thickness gauge to test clear coat thickness prior to starting a cut/polishing, paint correction with my DA Orbital with Orange or white pads. Just have the hood repainted and clear coated and be done with it.
