I collected my car on the 8th April and my sat nav touch screen hasnt worked since day 1. My car also has a number of paint defects as well.

I cant access any of the sat nav screen and i am stuck with just one radio station - it is driving my insane....

All i get is the warning message about operating whilst driving, but i can not press ok to get rid of the message...

My dealer is at the mercy of Ford and the part wont be available until July..

I have emailed Andy, Karen and Stacey to help speed things up - No response from anyone.

Be warned - if you are use to premium car customer service.. Ford is a long long way from being anywhere close to acceptable.

I find driving the car extremely frustrating due to no radio / satnav / options.

Completely irritated with Ford. Completely unacceptable - I have paid £795 for sat nav - and have to buy a sat nav unit to use in the interim.

Any ideas how to deal with Fords incompetence? My car was subject to a lengthy additional quality control check - which seems to me to have been a waste of time.

I have agreed with my dealer the paint defects can be rectified when the sat nav unit turns up - to save me being without the car twice.

Wait till it's mechanical problem then you're in the shit, if this was my only car I would have been stuffed as it's been at the dealers for almost 2 weeks with no word as to what is going on, and they never offered my a car to use whilst mine was off the road, i'll be honest and say these things did concern me when I ordered but I really didn't expect it to be this bad, Ford did the right thing bringing this car to the UK but they really should have thought about getting enough spares in the country to cope and training people up to fix them when things go wrong even if it meant sending them to the states for a few months before cars started arriving, sadly I think it's going to get worse as more cars enter the country and it's only a matter of time before the motoring press get hold of it and run with it, sadly this will be a real shame as it's a great car when it's going right for you.

Hmm no good! Haven't heard of this happening with anyone one else. If I was you, scour the web for anyone with a similar problem - there may be a way to reset the system (other than what it does when you turn the ignition off/on).

I work in IT so I can guarantee that it's the first thing they will do; if it's possible. It's a short term fix admittedly but will keep you sane until Ford can get that replacement.

Was there not a way to reset the ECU in the car (something to do with the battery disconnecting etc), if that's possible, it may also reset the SYNC 2 screen.. Hopefully, i'd assume it's something to do with the touch screen calibration (have you tried tapping all over the screen to see if it does anything).

Worst case will be that the sensors have 'gone' in the module, and therefore you're gonna require a new one, best case is that the calibration is naff and a reset should fix it.

If you can find and somehow 'map' how the claibration 'is' then you maybe able to move off the screen...

as for radio, steering wheel, hit the middle button on the right side, it'll change, otherwise use 'Tune' in the centre console which will 'seek' a new radio station?

SYNC with Touchscreen System Reset
The system has a System Reset feature that can be performed if the function of a SYNC feature is lost. This reset is intended to restore functionality and will not erase any information previously stored in the system (such as paired devices, phonebook, call history, text messages, or user settings).

To perform a System Reset, press and hold the Seek Up (>>) button while pressing and holding the Radio Power button. After approximately 5 seconds the screen will go black. Allow 1-2 minutes for the system reset to complete. You may then resume using the SYNC system.

Was it ever taken out of transport mode? And have you tried to do a reset?

If that doesn't work, disconnect the battery for 10 mins. Reconnect, start car run for 10 mins to allow full reboot. Switch off, open door for full power down, then restart. Used to work for the original MyTouch Syc systems apparently. If that doesn't work; back to plan 'A', new unit.

I read somewhere a fairly in-depth technical article (can't remember where) written by some bloke apparently in the know about Sync 2, that stated (unequivocally) that it's not in any way possible to upgrade them to a Sync 3 as it's a completely different coding/operating system (probably uses different control modules/wiring loom).

I'm sure it said something about one system having been written by Microsoft (arrrrgh :frusty:) and the other by the people who do the software for Blackberry (arrrrrrrgh :headbonk:).

Please do jump in here and correct me if you are aware otherwise as I remember starting to count the hairs coming out of my ears about halfway through reading the article as it was getting a bit nerdy!

thanks all for the suggestions.. My car went back to my ford dealer for almost a week to try and reboot/reset the sat nav. they apparently tried everything, but unfortunately found the module to be faulty so it needs to be a complete unit replacement..

I already asked about sync 3 - that was what i hoped would be a silver lining. I dont think the guy i spoke to had an idea what i was talking about. But i will try and ask again when they book it in to be fixed..

If they give you a SYNC 3 upgrade, my SYNC 2 shall magically stop working also. :D

Another case of an official import just as hard to get parts for as an unofficial personal import.

Andy B has been quiet lately.
