So I’ve been working for a few weeks when I have extra time on my car and putting together what I hope is a cooling system upgrade.
With the 10R80 heat issues I wanted to do something to cool it down a bit on the track. I really haven’t had any oil related heat issues but once. I figured it was time to upgrade both coolers. Since nothing was really on the market that dealt with both systems I started parts hunting and came up with the pics below.
I used 40 row Derale stacked coolers on both systems and they are rated due 67k BTU of heat extraction. I used derale double cooler mounts. I tied into the back of the crash bar using brackets from derale out of their S197 kit. Since my setup was much taller I had to create a bridge between the top/bottom of the cooler mounts to tie into the crash bar brackets.
Then I went to plumbing. On the trans side I cut the factory hard line that ran from the quick disconnects to the cooler, used a AN flaring tool, tube nuts and tube sleeves with a -8 union to hook into my lines. This was the only real worry I have as far as sealing. If I would have known, or I can find out for certain what type of connection and size the factory uses I may change this portion. They look like a jiffy tite type connection which they make AN hose ends for but I couldn’t get and confirmation from anyone that would work so I did it as explained.
On the oil side I used a setrab sandwich plate with 180* thermostat.
I also did a cervini c series grill to open up the grill a bit and am awaiting on the matching lower.
Any criticism and critiques are welcome. I’m excited to get it on the track and give it a shot to see how it does but they’ll be 3 weeks or so. Thanks
