Rustproofing an ALL YEAR ROUND Mustang

Hey everyone,
I'm in Canada for a 1 1/2 year now (for good) and since I intend to keep my Mustang for a good amount of years, and also to drive it all year round, I was thinking of rustproofing it.

First of all, I'm "new" to these crazy winters (even though I'm from the French alps and am familiar with snow, this sh** is a whole other level lol), and would like to know if it's NECESSARY, or if the modern cars come with enough quality to them to be "winterproof" ?

And second, my dealer is offering me a (apparently) crazy deal on this http://finalcoat.ca/installed_products.html , for 1199$ instead of 2199$.
Anybody knows it ? Is it worth it ?

I'm in Canada, too, so far I haven't rust proof my car, still debating about it.

The dealer offer is a scam (all dealer offers are, for the matter of facts).

There is no such rust protection they just apply once and good forever. Professional rustproofing is available from specialized companies (Krown, Rust-Check, etc...) for 150-200$ and need to be reapplied yearly... They need to drill holes in the car (ouch..) and the coating drips for days after the application (oil spray). Not to mention, if they are not careful enough, the oil can hurt all rubber parts (those need to be masked out prior to application)...

I'd avoid the electronic rust protection (overpriced, ineffective) or the thick hard coating (makes more harm than help as by time it cracks then moisture can go beneath the coating)

Their conclusion is: "Car Help Canada recommends that consumers avoid the thick coatings and electronic gadgets and go with the tried and true oil-based method if they want additional corrosion protection for their vehicle."

BTW, about the electronic box your dealer offer for 1199$ instead of 2199$ - I got my car in December and my dealer offered the same box for 699$ without mentioning about any sensational discount. I rejected...

Thank you for your answer; well the price also includes a whole bunch of stuff like Exterior Paint Enhancer, Interior Protection, Windshield +...
I was also considering Krown, since there's a place close to where I live, but it's like 140$ every year, and only covers the rust from inside out while that other system covers "Total perforation protection, even when caused by stone chips and scratches", and comes with a 10 year warranty, so in the end, the final price is pretty much the same but for less things covered by Krown (not considering that if Krown gets more expensive every year... you end up paying more...)

What I just realized too, is how much aluminium is actually used in the Stang ? Cause Aluminium doesnt rust, right ?

Well if it comes with 10 year warranty then go for it, the warranty itself probably worth it (check the small letters though ), for me the dealer wanted to offer 6 years warranty only which didn't make much sense (modern cars do not get perforated from rust at age of 6 years)

To tell you the truth, I never rust-proof, and I've never had issues. I don't plan on doing it on my Mustang either.

If you can wash your car regularly (once or twice a week depending on how bad it is) in a touch-less car-wash, and avoid having snow/salt build up in the wheels by brushing it off after slushy drives, and generally keep an eye on things and remove the salt/ice/snow when you see it, you should be fine. Snow and slush is harmless comparatively. It's the salt that's your enemy. Keep it off, and you'll be ok.

I never did rust proof on two cars I owned previously. I do plan on driving my Mustang all year around. I do not plan on rust proofing my Mustang. I live in Toronto.

When I was talking to my dealer, even he told me up front that the car doesn't need rust proofing.

I was really on the edge, might just take the "chance" not rustproofing it, and keeping it clean most winter should do the job.

If you keep your cars for 4-5 years, not worth it since newer cars will never rust in that time frame. If you plan on keeping it longer, then rustproofing is necessary or rust will pop up no matter how often you wash/rinse it.

I'll check the brand when I treat my car in the coming weeks, but it's a professional product I buy in 5 gals so yes you need the rustproofing equipment (electrical pump, spray gun and various tips) and a lift.

You can have it done at a shop and it will still help a lot, I just like doing things to my satisfaction myself and since I have the equipment might as well!

Gonna think about all this, might as well just go with the dealers solution, comes with a warranty. What do you think of that ?

I live in Quebec, a bit far unfortunately

I think the dealer option is way too expensive and I've never seen a dealer do a good job (electronics are for boats). Would never consider or recommend.

I don't know which companies offer rustproofing in your area, but the specialized companies are usually your best bet like someone mentioned above. Prices usually range around 90-150$ in my area so shop around.

If you dont know any and are willing the cross the river, there is a Metropolitain Rustproofing location in Gatineau. Althought I've never used them myself, they usually get decent reviews around here and costs 92$ (goes on special for less in fall). They also include a warranty if you get treated every year (don't worry about perforation, won't happen in the first 10+ years, especially if you rustproof).

The whole idea of rustproofing a car is to prevent surface rust that will lift and peel off the paint, so it's the only warranty that matters.

They offered with 6 years surface and life time body rust, warranty, I know nothing is going to happen for first 6 years, If i plan on getting the car for long that i might do, Then ford dealer pays for the body parts. they gave it to me for 500$ i dont mind it, atleast give me peace of mind i dont have to go rust proof every year.

proper rust proof cost around 300-500$
i cheap oil ones are not effective i worked at car detailing shop when i was young, i learnt it there
