The trailing arms are aluminum. They don't rust like iron. They turn to that white spot stuff the previous guys posted. The half shaft is iron and forms the usually referred to as rust iron oxide. Not odd at all.

Salt is a big cause of rust. Do not let any salt on or near your car. It will cause rust. Even when you wash it off, it will just spread it and create more rust. This is the best way to keep your car lasting well into the future!

Took my stock exhaust off today... No rust on it, but the driveshaft did have light surface rust.

Damn, and I thought mine was bad. This makes no sense unless they salt the test track at Flat Rock plant. Mine had 19 miles on it so can assume they went around the track several times for QC. Still they should not be rusted like this.

I have white splatter everywhere underneath, and bolts like the one mounting the brake line to the front caliper are solid rust, all the front suspension knuckles, bottom of strut, metal plate at front of tranny like a torque converter cover, all rusted, tranny case corroded white aluminum.

Then I remembered mine was a QC tester, I got a nice note from Ford that they ran 46 miles in mid january road testing it at the factory. It's great they tested it, sucks they did it in salt and snow.

My mustang will be a dd in Chicago snow, salt, rain it's just a car . How ever during winter she will be rinsed off every other day and garaged. No big deal doesn't effect anything. They do have that under spray stuff to protect againest salt and such don't they.
