Ask him for the "roll race tune". It'll let you go into manual mode and it will stay in gear unless WOT. Works soo much better than the manual mode and bumping up to drive.

You can also set up live-in-drive/LID/base drive paddle mode to work the same way, which is what I did. Basically in either sport or base, once you hit the paddle it will only upshift or downshift as a function of rpm, not affected by pedal.
