Replacement Tire Speed Rating

I currently have Z rated tires. They're fine for the rest of the season but I'll probably replace them next year. This is a Sunday driver, top down, cruise the back roads car & it will never see the track so I don't think I need to replace them with Z. What would be a recommended rating to replace them with?

Even cheap Chinese 'performance' tires will be rated above Z rating

You want to go with a quality tire. Most tires that aren't Z-rated are basic passenger tires and you shouldn't be putting those on a Mustang.

For liability reasons a lot of tire shops won't put a lower than factory rated tire on the car. You could go over the lower rating, have a tire failure, then try to sue them.
