Hey, so I was just told that if the manual says 87 (regular) gas, and you were to put 89 (mid grade) gas there is no difference. What are your thoughts? Should i continue to fill up with 89 or should I just use 87?

I tracked my mpg for a couple of tanks each using 87, 89, and 91, I saw no change based on the octane used. I think any difference is negligible for the 3.7, might as well go by the manual and cheapest.

Unless you have a "tune", you probably would never see much of a difference. Kind of a waste of money but some 3.7L Mustangs might see a couple extra ponies using 91.

Take all the money your saving buying regular gas and get some mods.

87 is fine for V8 or V6. ECOBOOST i would do 93 every time.

me in my GT, I do 93 almost every time. Just random times when i am filling up like a half tank, i will go ahead and do 87.

It's a Taurus motor. (Ford fleet and police Taurus and Explorer as well as the Lincoln MKZ) Put 87 in it. No fleet or government agency I know of fills up with anything but 87. Gas isn't any cleaner or dirtier depending on octane. It's not going to last any longer or turn into a beast with anything higher than 87.
Gas is labeled for more profit...calling it "mid grade" and "premium". It makes you think you're treating and maintaining your car better.
If your motors parameters, tune and compression don't require 89,91 or 93 then you're spending money on an octane rating you just don't need.
But, tires are a different story. I only fill them up with premium Canadian air, captured in the cool arctic North with no contaminants like smog or cigarette smoke.
*but in all seriousness, there IS a placebo effect with using "premium" gas. If you actually feel like you're caring for your car better and that your car drives better...then what's a few bucks more in the long run.
