Hey folks,

I am based in Bristol UK and have had a service light come on in my 2006 Mustang GT - quite possibly related to gearbox work I have had done recently.

I am hoping to find a specialist down this part of the world - although the majority seem to be over towards London/Essex which is also fine as I have family over that way.

A few places I have had recommended are as follows - anyone had good/bad experiences?

American Vehicle Services (AVS)
John Reeve
Braintree, Essex

Stevens Engineering (transmission specialist)

There's also a big ol' list over on http://www.yanktanks.co.uk/servicing.htm

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

Unfortunately they said they were not keen on doing transmission work anymore (or at least not on a 2006).

Ah just noticed this is for a 2006 car. Have you been over to Mustsngforumuk ? Or the mustang owners club? They may be able to recommend someone. Or @twin_turbo maybe able to help

AVS is Richard Boatwrights company people who imported my 2016 CS
Bill Shepherd Mustang, they bleed Mustang :D
GT101, Dave is a salt of the earth bloke
Also Custom Exotics, but not 100% sure they do engine work,
For me, I would say any of the above,
But Bill Shepherd Mustang is the most known for the Stang I would say

Charterhouse Garage in Godalming. Prad is an excellent mechanic and has picked up a few Mustangs who have had enough of Bill Shepherd's prices/ He looks after my S550

First thing you probably want to do is get any codes read on the car. You mention a "Service" light.........but you think it's related to the gearbox? If you can get the codes read, at least you'll know what sort of specialist you need. If it is, indeed a gearbox issue, even a Mustang specialist would likely point you in the direction of a gearbox specialist.

Out of those listed though.....these 3 would be my choice. Redline American Muscle have a good reputation and perhaps aren't as "premium" as the other two here.

Thanks @twinturbo. The service light has come on since gearbox work so my guess is it is related but, as you say, need to get the codes checked.

Thanks for those recommendations.

Just been googling for a code reader. From (limited) research, it seems OBD2 is a standard so presumably any would suffice? There are lots with quite a varied price range from £5 up to £300... Any particular ones worth me keeping an eye out for? Will search forum too.

Thanks, good to know that price range would suffice. Just discovered a fellow stanger nearby who has one so may borrow that for now.
