Let's start a thread on how OEM electronics can be modified or need to be retained to build racecars. Or post about aftermarket electronics that can bypass OEM electronics. Some want to gut their cars to the metal but there are some electronics that must stay. This is not a thread of total aftermarket ECU's and wiring harness replacement.

For example Davidnpoole writes:

OK, so if anyone is gutting their S550 here is a small piece of knowledge. If you remove the center console/armrest/cupholders the car will NOT START! There is a small module under the cup holder that has to be plugged in to be recognized and start the car. FYI

I bought a flood damaged car....removed every stitch of wiring from the fuel pump forward. Also removed every sensor and doodad in the car including the magic box in the middle. Replaced with FR 504V wire harness and ECU. Car starts and runs just fine. Don't even need a key anymore.... Down side - no ABS, but not like I drive it on the street....
