I have noticed when I am driving my 2015 GT, that the A/C cuts off or blows warmer air when the engine is under load, such as taking off, especially spirited takeoffs. But once I am back to "cruising", it comes back and blows cold air. Is this normal or is something possibly incorrect with the A/C?

Has it always done that? I would say it is not normal based on my non professional opinion. There is probably a leak somewhere and hopefully not in the cabin. Any funky smell when it is running?
I would have it checked out, the hot weather is on the way.

I have only owned the car since October, so no real need for the A/C until now. Also, it a convertible, so most of the time the top is down and no need for A/C. It is only now that the weather is warm to hot, that I have really looked into the A/C. No funky smells or anything that I can tell, only gets driven once a week or less and is garage kept when not driven. My gages said the freon is fine, but I may have to let a professional hook it up and see if they can see anything.

I would guess it's a protection program built in to keep the compressor from turning too fast.

That is a thought I had as well. Given they are supposed to be performance cars, I thought maybe it shut off to allow maximum HP, but I could be wrong.

I believe the compressor is designed to turn off during WOT
I don't think it's to conserve HP but rather to protect the compressor from being spun above ~6k

Also, heads up that the 2015s-2017s were notorious for AC issues.

If Ford has kept up with everyone else, the AC compressor doesn't get turned on and off anymore, it's a variable pump that flows more or less. Old days a certain load request (or RPM) would shut it off, and they still do that by destroking the pump. That said, the car moves a lot more air over the condenser when you're moving than not, and they've programmed logic into how the AC runs in the Auto mode. It's pretty "normal" for the AC to work less efficiently when sitting still or moving slowly in traffic, but if the temp swing seems very drastic, you probably should let a pro take a look. Your gauges aren't necessarily lying to you, but you may need to be expecting different numbers based on what the computers think the compressor should be doing. (Maybe it's slightly low on refrigerant but some logic in the program is attempting to make up for it, giving you good readings when testing)

It's normal. Car automatically disables AC momentarily in high load demand situations.

I have AC on often when hot out and top down. Usually set to foot wells for seat to draw cool air, and body facing vents. Makes a huge difference...
