This may be a stupid question....

Just noticed that when I turn on the indicators, the same side DRL turns off. When the indicator is cancelled, the DRL turns back on.

Anyone else noticed this - and is it meant to be the case?

seems a bit odd - but you never know with the design choices by Ford....

Believe its the law with DRL's so that oncoming traffic can see the indicator

Yup standard operating procedure, checkout the German borewagons when/if they indicate you'll see the drl either turn off or dim down.

German borewagon (bmw) angel eyes does not dim when indicators are on, only when headlights come on. Weirdly, If you spec adaptive headlight, the fog independently comes on when indicating or to the direction you're turning into even without indicators on.

So doubt it's got anything to do with the law, perhaps with the design and positon of the indicator.

My borewagon  doesn't do that but it is from 2008 when DRLs became mandatory on new vehicles. They probably hadn't thought it through...

Not on Nissan cashcows they don't. The front indicator is entirely obscured as its surrounded by intensely bright drl leds. Even more stupid than the golf rear indicator being surrounded by break lights.
