While I am waiting anxiously for my S550 to be delivered, I was looking at the mods I want to do. One mod I have always done is a CAI and tune. I was wondering what everyone's experience has been who has done this mod. Did it work right out of the box or did you have issues at first and need tune revisions before it was right? I was wondering this because the car is so new.

I installed a JLT intake and a Bama 91 track tune all ordered from American Muscle. Very easy install and easy to upload. Results were definitely noticeable. I have no reason to doubt manufactures claims of tq and hp gains with this combo.

Did the tune also improve MPG if driven conservatively? I know one doesn't get a tune to improve MPGs but my car is daily driven. I would hate for a tune to decrease my MPGs if the car isn't being pushed.

I don't know yet as I am having too much fun putting my foot down. I can say that it certainly has not made it any worse

I have the JLT CAI and Bama 93 track tune. Everything worked right out of the box. I'm currently daily driving mine and haven't seen an increase or decrease in my MPG. I've had a few revisions, but it was because I wanted to datalog and make sure everything was good. Revisions aren't bad because every car is different, and the revisions I've had haven't taken over 2 days.

I'm about to order a JLT CAI and Bama X4 Tuner. I see that they sell a windshield mount for the tuner itself. I was under the impression that once you hook the tuner up and actually tune the vehicle, you can then remove the tuner. What is the benefit of having the tuner mounted on the dash or windshield? Do people do that for datalogging or something and keep the tuner plugged in?

I have a jlt and Livernois tuner. Made 426hp to the wheels.

No revisions, no data logging required.

I don't think BAMAs necessarily require you to datalog either if you're just tuning the vehicle, do they? Either way, I was just curious under what circumstances someone would want to mount the tuner to their dash/windshield.

Dang good question. I really see zero reason other than "hey look at me" the end user cannot adjust anything. There's nothing is shows that the car doesn't already have the ability to show. And there's nothing you can do to alter the info shown.

Watch iat's for a bit but. Who cares after so long.
Coolant temp, nothing you can do
Oil temp, nothing you can do.
Speedo? Got one
Rpm? Got a tach

I had a edge monitor on my 6.0 power stroke, only because you actually need to monitor coolant temp vs oil temp to see how bad the oil cooler is plugged and egt while towing

It would have been good to have when I was data logging but other than that I don't see the need for one either.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. For datalogging, you need to keep the device plugged in while you drive around and stuff, right? So it can gather certain information that you can then send back to whoever you need to? That's really the only reason I came up with as to why one would need the mount. If I had to datalog, I wouldn't want the tuner just sliding around on the floor.

Bama doesn't "require" that you datalog in order to get a tune from them. They've sent out hundreds of intake/tuner combos for 2015+ GT's with no issues and have gotten tons of dyno results and datalogs back from customers to prove that they're working right out of the gate!

However, if you want a little peace of mind, the Bama Performance team can work with you to datalog and verify that you're vehicle is performing optimally. They'll look at wideband air/fuel ratio, ignition timing, variable cam timing, etc. to make sure that you not only make safely and consistently the most power possible, but they'll also make sure that you're happy with driveability.

Bama also now offers E85 tuning if anyone is interested in that!

Hope this helps!
