Over here in the UK we won't be getting our cars for another couple of months yet, and that's only the guys that ordered about 18 months ago, so I need to ask you lot on the other side of the pond.....

Recaro seats aren't an option on the RHD version so I'm going to have to import some, my question is, for those of you that have them, as the driver side is more adjustable than the passenger, do you think I can fit them the other way round i.e. will I still be able to reach all the controls for each seat if they're on the "wrong side", or will I have to fit them as in the LHD cars and put up with less adjustability on my driver's seat? Will the transmission tunnel get in the way?

That sucks you're not even being offered the Recaro seats. I highly doubt you'll be able to flip the seats to the opposite side due to the mounting and as you mention they could interfere with the tunnel or center console. I'm sure you'll be able to get them and mount them just fine, you just won't have the height adjustability on your side. There's always the possibility of modifying that but I think it would be really difficult.

Best of luck!

why not just use the seats in their intended positions? i think the only difference is the driver's seat up/down movement.

Well, the lower seat structure is identical to most current Ford vehicles. If you can find a US vehicle with manual high adjustment you could swap the guts.

If you are importing them, doesn't Recaro make a R/H seat for the Ford Focus RS (European)? The seat rails may not be the same but the Ford Focus RS seat itself could probably be easily adapted for thr R/H Mustang. Better yet, give Recaro a shout...they are probably developing a R/H drive Recaro for the Mustang and have not released the information yet.:headbang:

I'm not sure how swapping the guts over would help as the external controls and their size in relation to the gap between seat and transmission tunnel are what's going to (possibly) cause issues.

As for using a different seat, I don't want to get into the headache of having to get custom frames/rails fabricated so would rather stick with an OEM option.

Recaro's website and network of dealer showrooms seems a bit lacking so I doubt they'll be any help but I may well send them a mail.

The only thing that is different is that the height adjustment of the recaro is different, other then that they are the same. If you are really tall i think youd be fine, but i am a 5'9" male and my height adjustment is usually about 1/2 of the way up out of the max adjustment. You could make put a spacer between the floor and the seat, not sure how safe thatd be though. if you take apart the bottom of the drivers side recaro with the adjust-ability, you may be able to flip over the assembly. Worst case scenario youd have to dremel out a hole in some plastic to flip over the handles if you couldnt just reverse the plastic.

I have recaros and I've never moved my seat up from the lowest setting. The passenger seat will suffice just fine as the drivers side seat over there. Don't even worry about it. All you need is the ability to move forward and backwards, and both sides do that.

Grab them from a RHD Kuga, or Focus. Same stuff. It would be easier to just put in other race seats though. Unless your concerned about the lack of airbags.
