Hi everyone, I'm Stu and I 'm looking into replacing my current Focus RS with something with a bit more power and presence. I was wondering if anyone here had made the same move and what their thoughts are on making the move. I know that I'll miss the traction of the 4 wheel drive on the backroads but I feel like if I get a Mustang I'll drive slower overall as the burble of the V8 should keep me happy.

My options are either to keep the RS for a bit longer and save up for a Bullitt, a custom pack 4 car with magnaride in magnetic grey or a 55 edition in grabber lime or lucid red with magnaride again but I still need to see one in the flesh to make my mind up if I like the colour or not. My other option is to get a lightly used 1 year old car sooner but it seems that custom pack 4 cars are a rare thing or don't get sold as quickly as other cars. Really not sure what to do.

Also once I have it I'd like to make it a bit louder and more powerful, something like this but without the E85 tune.

My question is I'm led to believe that american cars don't have the PPF in the exhaust and euro ones do, is it simple enough to remove the PPF?

Thanks :like:

you can tune the gpf out but i believe its an MOT failure once that time comes around unless you have a friendly tester (lets face it everyone does)

i found the RS to be very clinical and insanely easy to drive at the limits especially on twisties. i prefer the mustang it feels like you're always on the edge of death so much more fun, sure won't get around a track anywhere near the rs but at 10mph forward speed i can hold a straight line drift for about 3 miles in it so its far more fun. completely different cars though you can't really compare them, also mustang doesn't break your spine on long journeys.

make sure you buy shares in tyre suppliers at same time as you'll chew through sets of tyres like they don't exist i've just ordered what will be my 4th set of rears in 8 months.

4th set?! What mileage are you getting out of them?

OP the tuning shop I go to who are an rs specialist, there is a guy who had a Mustang gt sold for a focus rs then pretty much went back to the Mustang! We run a golf R too, I find the Mustang much more involving and rewarding to drive, the presence it has is also mega, people love it.

Thanks hinch, not overly fussed about the MOT as my other halfs cousin is a MOT tester so he'd see me right on that side of things, same with if I got rid of the cats.

Yeah the RS is an easy car to drive at and over the limit, found that out a few times :giggle: No I'm not expecting the Mustang to be a track hero, I'm more looking for how it feels on the road driving at normal speeds which is how I drive 90% of the time. No the RS and Mustang are aimed at different buyers and are worlds apart in what they were built for, I'm just worried that I'll miss the RS as I love how it drives but it doesn't sound the best even with a exhaust fitted, the Mustang will definitley solve that part haha.

Oh god are they that bad on tyres? Or do you just like line lock and drifting?

I've driven a Golf R and it's a snooze fest IMO, so boring to drive and just understeers at the limit unless you lob it into a corner but even then it will go back to understeer.

I've seen people do the same in the RS world, they go off and get another car only to then sell it and come straight back to the RS which is what is worring me, I don't want to do the same haha.

I basically drift it everywhere i think i'm getting about 600 miles per set of rears at the moment I think, most normal people who don't drive like idiots get a good few thousand out of them though wouldn't say they're much worse than the focus when driven normally. it is what it is though i wanted something rear wheel and slippy thats what i got and the roads around here god knows what they put on them but they're basically glass even just letting out the clutch no throttle results in a drift.

I think your comments are pretty close to how I view the difference.

With the Mustang I do have to wait for when I get onto the throttle, out of bends. As opposed to rapid/Mapped AWD Audi I've had, where I could be a little less considerate and lean on the AWD traction. I get bored with rapid hot hatches. Imo the AWD versions are one trick, traction ponies, making their drivers the traffic light GP champions.

Being N/A the GT really gets a move on, later in the gears. Which is "interesting". Then if you go for Boost!!!............. :cwl:

Ultimately it may well become an itch you have to scratch, whether you keep it or not.
Go for it

I was lucky enough to see and sit in a Grabber Lime 55 Edition at Trust Ford Lisburn, Northern Ireland today...The colour is awesome and totally suits the car. My 3 year old son fell in love with it too...he asked is the lady bringing it to our house later :giggle:

Also Carwow ware offering discounts on the Bullitt Edition Mustangs, maybe you could try that option to purchase one?

That does look good, especially with the black wheels, roof and vents breaking up the colour.
Am i reading that right in terms of the price :£419 x 38 = £15,922
£15,922 + £17,830 + £23,780 = £57,532 :whew:

Yes the RS can summon traction in places it just shouldn't be able to, even in the snow with winter tyres fitted it's got silly amounts of grip for the conditions.

I think it is an itch that I'll have to scratch at some point but I'm not sure if I should yet because I still love my RS.

I feel like grabber lime is a colour that doesn't show well in photos and lights, it can look washed out but next month I'm down near Birmingham with work and there's 2 lime ones near there that I can take a trip out to see in the flesh

I've carwow'd a Bullitt and there are good discounts to be had so that's appealing to me as well.

i think they have worked something out wrong there, especially if the APR is 0%.

can’t be a PCP deal as I don’t think you can put nearly 18 grand in as a deposit on a pcp deal. Think that should maybe be Ā£7830 deposit not Ā£17830.

Well. There's your answer.
I've a friend with an FRS, he's a distributor for the magic module for the standard dampers. I've had a passenger seat ride & it's so flippin capable & mapped to ~400 it's just plain scary & he loves it!

I like them, but as good as the FRS can be, I really love the sound of that V8 at full attack!

You're in a great position. Leave it as long as you like, used Mustang GTs' can be tremendous value & a strong route into serious power.

Look @CraigJ and what he's done.

I bought new, but if I had my time again, I'd do what he's done. That much performance for less than my GT cost new??
That's great value & a great project.
