The little munchkin had a busy day. A midday walk through the bush, followed by a relaxing stretch on the cool grass of the adjoining sports field. On the ride to and from our walk, for the first time he sat calmly in the passenger seat like a good boy.

When we got home, it was time for a bath. Would you believe he claws at the laundry sink cabinet in anticipation, maybe it's the warm water? I've never met a dog who's looked forward to bath, I had to chase, catch and carry Faych to do the same. The obligatory run around the backyard followed.

After the bath, he then "helped" change some outdoor light globes, he even wanted to climb the ladder with me. A late lunch, it was time a big sleep.

Leaf blower? Must be the same effect as sticking his head out the window when driving.

It was koi pond clean out and opening day today. It will look better once the plants grow back.
I want build something like that in my yard, probably without the fish. I maintained this is a former life, just something satisfying about running water.

The sound of the water falling and the noise is very nice. It also draws animals from everywhere to the water.

Hmmm, why do I get the impression he want's me to stop working?

We are practicing some obedience commands at the moment. I had so many people telling me I should/must take him to puppy training school, but I've never really been a fan of dog trainers, if you know you know. I'm doing it myself.

Walking with a Cocker Spaniel is always a stop-start affair, they always find something to sniff out. So, you can sort of excuse my indifference with every stop, he's usually just sniffing who was there last. We pretty much always walk close to waterways or bushland, so I'm always trying to at least keep him out of the taller grass, usually while saying "no buddy, there might be a snake in there".....................

So we stop for the 300th time, I say the line, but this time it was different. Something clearly had his attention, I took a closer look where suddenly it clicked and I yanked him away as fast as I could......................from a red belly black snake, cue the FECKING F.CK!

The snake was facing away from us and wasn't moving, so I thought it may have been dead, but then it started to move slowly away. So, I'd say it was slow and sleepy as its now getting quite cold, had it been mid-summer we may not have been so lucky.

We normally don't see snakes this late in the season, its always in spring and early summer. That makes it four I've come across while walking this past warm season, three with Faych and one with Olly.

The one thing about where you live is if it's the most deadly creature it lives in your country. Yikes. I guess I can put up with the cold and ice and crappy weather where I live and not have to deal with that.

Good thing you pay attention and keep a watchful eye out. Keep you and that big tongue pup-pup safe. Yikes

Years ago when lived out west I was almost bitten by a rattlesnake when out fishing. Saved by a sage bush.

Had to look it up - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-bellied_black_snake
Sounds like your snake friend was sunning himself trying to warm up. We don't have many critters like that where we live though if you go hiking on the rocky ledges of our mountain tops you might just come upon a timber rattlesnake doing the exact same thing.

I don't mind the Red Belly Black snakes, I come across them quite often when bush walking or out with the dog. They will always just casually wander off in the opposite direction, they seem pretty docile. It's the Eastern Brown Snake that gets my heart going when I see them, they are the reason I wear long pants when out in the bush.

This one was enjoying some morning sun next to the path I was taking the dog for a walk on.
