Just joined this forum after reading as many posts as possible in the last week or so.

I'm planning on retiring this coming June and my wife and I are considering getting a new Mustang as my retirement send-off. Only seems right that during the early years of my career, I had a 64 Mustang that I traveled back & forth to work in. Now, there will possibly be a 2015 or 2016 Mustang to ride 'away' from work, lol. :)

My main considerations are 'comfort' and decent mpg. So the EcoBoost Premium Fastback will be our choice. She has to be a 6 speed manual with the equipment group 201A, navigation, Ruby Red color, reverse sensing system and adaptive Cruise Control. My only uncertainty is whether or not to get the Performance Package as I don't want to have a stiffer suspension take away from a comfortable ride and the 3.55 rear possibly lessening mpg. I also don't want 19" wheels. (But I "DO" love those two center mounted gauges and the over sized radiator!):D

So with all that being said, I'm going to try and find out what the cut-off date is to order a 2015. More them likely, I'll have to wait for the 2016 models to be available as I definitely want the vehicle as I described it above and also looking to take delivery around June or a bit later. It also might be interesting to see what changes (if any) might be offered for the 2016 line.

If any of you have had the opportunity to drive an EcoBoost with and without the Performance package, I'd be very interested to see if you found a difference in riding comfort. I'm going to try and find some that I can test drive in the next few months as well.

So get ready for many questions in the future, lol.

I had an ecoboost non PP rental for a week in orlando and it was a blast to drive, very comfortable ride and still had great handling. I did a 90 mile highway ride with cruise 60-65 and it showed 36 mpg when i got off the highway.

Admittedly I only have a handful of miles on my PP GT, but I do not find the ride harsh at all. I am 41 - if that makes any difference. I am using higer profile winter tires right now, so that probably softens up the ride a bit.

Why not 19s? Imo, they are the perfect size wheel for this car.

Thanks for the observations.

The only reason I don't want the 19s, is to have as much of a side wall as possible to soften the ride. At 64, I'm not going to be racing around hair pin turns, lol. ;) So the additional handling the 19s afford you aren't a concern for me. If I could, I'd put 17" wheels on her, but then there might be a problem with clearance regarding the calipers.

The PP EB does seem to have a pretty stiff ride. You can feel all the bumps and ridges in the road although I'm not sure how much that has to do with the tires and how much is the suspension.

That's what I had suspected. Usually, performance suspensions handle extremely well, but tend to suffer regarding a smooth ride. And I'm sure the reduced size of the 19" side wall also adds a bit. Again, I'll also test drive them as time passes. But more then likely, I'll pass on getting the PP, sad to say, :(

I test drove one without the PP and I do remember the ride being a little bouncier

I am at your stage of life. I am getting the same car, ----MT, ecoboost, etc. I decided on the PP because the dash looks nicer and the brakes are larger

FYI you can put 17" wheels on the non PP ecoboost. I threw some 17" winter tires and wheels on mine. The ride quality is noticeably better then the 20" wheels it came with.

I know what you mean about the dash looking nicer with those center gauges and the advantage of the larger brakes.

Now this just might make the difference!!! I'm assuming that the first picture is with the 17" wheels. I just might get that PP now!

By the way, that looks like the Ruby Red color. I better not show this to my wife, or she'll be looking for one now!! lol ;)

17s fit the non-PP ecoboost.

I'd recommend going to test drive a PP and non-PP. The PP isn't too harsh of a drive. It's one of the biggest bang for the buck packages available too. There should be plenty of them around to test drive.

At least then you'll know the trade-off you're making when you go with non-PP.

I have the PP package on my EB and wouldn't do it any differently. Tightens it up in all the right ways, but the ride isn't harsh at all. Given, it's not my wife's Explorer Limited, but it isn't bad at all. I'd echo the the recommendation to test drive both and decide. :)
