Hi all, just had a few questions/ponderings about plasti dipping emblems/badges for those that have done it already.

I've used plasti-dip before on wheels and body panels, but on my '15 gt I want to black out the front pony, rear GT, and side 5.0 emblems.

How do you mask off the inside of the letters/numbers? cut out pieces of masking tape? use liquid masking tape? what's the cleanest/best approach?

I want to do it as clean as possible, and not scratch or put any blemishes on anything at all, maybe there's a way of doing it that I haven't considered yet.

Thanks in advance

only mask a square around the emblems and badges for the sides and back. And leave a good amount of space. I will show you a picture of how I taped the back when I get back to my laptop at home. But once the plastidip has dried it is easy to peel around the emblems.

I used scotch blue painters - multi-surface tape and newspaper to cover the area around the emblems.

oh wow that is interesting. so it comes off clean and doesn't rip off uneven?

I think I tried that before and it just kinda pulled a lot of the dip around it off too.

I'm sure I was doing it wrong

Watch a few videos on youtube about plastidipping emblems. It's easy. Mask off a square around it. Give it a good 20 minutes to dry when you're all done spraying. Spray light, even coats so it doesn't pool in the corners. Take your time, and it should be fine. I used a toothpick to get in and grab some of the dip on the "inside" of the emblems.

Yea as you can see I taped off a box around the emblem. I did like 4-5 coats, which allows me to peel off the surrounding quite easy.

As for the holes in the feet, i used 2 things, a pick and a long wooden shish kabob stick to cox and roll up the plastidip and remove it.

the stuff you can do now with the flakes and pearls is ridiculous. You can spray it through a cheapo preval too
