I work a 4x10 shift and start at 5:30am. Maybe twice a week I'll stop at a local grocery store (Safeway) before work, which means I'm hitting it at about 5:20. Last Wednesday after existing Safeway I approach my car and find that someone had spit on the driver side window. Went back inside and got two bottles of water to wash it off. I didn't see anyone in the parking lot before or after the incident. I can't imagine why anyone would go out of their way to approach a stranger's car just to spit on it. Unreal. But, I guess that's better than a dent or ding...
now that I think about it, something like this happened to me. I went into a rite aid and came out in less that 5 minutes to find someone had poured beer all over the drivers side quarter window and panel... this happened in broad daylight and it must have came from a can or bottle sitting in a hot car because you could easily smell it as you walked by my car....

no reason at all for this... it pissed me off, i washed my car after that....

I would always park my s2000 away from potential dings and scratches. I had a job where i parked on the side of the lot where NOBODY parked, except this one kid in his early 90's explorer getting out for work one day. I said "hey man ! out of all these spots you have to park right by mine !" he goes "sorry man Im late for work." which isn't a legit excuse to me, either way the next day he was a few spots over.

I drove my sisters 2012 mustang to school one day and I don't have a choice from parking away form people. I came outside after my class to see this camry less than an inch away from the front bumper. I was so pissed. I left came back and that guy was getting something out of his car. I just told him how ridiculously close he was and to pay attention.

Salesman at the dealership the other day put his keys on the hood of the car I was looking at, I told him to take them off.....potential car and your already scratching it !!!

...usually if i have to park next to someone, i snap a photo of the license plate so when i come out and if there are any dings i at least have an attempt at retribution lol
I have done this, twice. :p

well OP...maybe he and his SUV wanted to keep clear of door dings too, and he figured since you were out in no mans land, he would be safe parking next to you.... just a thought.
The small SUV that parked next to me wasn't a new vehicle and didn't look very well cared for. I would think anyone who parks next to you out in no man's land and dings your door would want to take off before you return and discover the damage, unless they are so zombie like that they didn't know they dinged the door. If you're in the store a long time, someone could park next to you, ding the door and be gone before you even return and you'd never know who did it.

The difference is that this Mustang stands out a lot, you may not understand because from what I can see you don't drive one and don't live here in the US.

Comparing a brand new minivan to this car is laughable, go to a car lot and it's usually the sport cars that get the most attention.

I guess with your theory, I should leave my door unlocked with a $100 bill in plain sight and ASSUME there gonna respect my property.
The Mustang is a good looking car, no doubt. But if my brand new minivan got a door ding, I'd be upset. Most people want to keep their new cars looking new as long as they can. I have a coworker who purposely parks next to me because she just got a "new to her" 2013 Buick. She's never had a car that new before. She was paranoid about parking but then told me that she figured the safest place to park would be next to me. She's 100% correct.

I always wonder about these kinds of post, I mean aren't there a lot of other 35-45k cars in parking lots, you yourself might not even be aware of let alone non car enthusiasts. Plus the Mustang isn't really all that special in the US right ?

To many people its still just a car, especially in the US.

You should take comfort in the thing you mentioned yourself. If he parked near your car to have a look at it you also have to assume that he will treat it with respect.

Don't get me wrong I do understand the frustration. But that also goes for the person who just bought a new minivan.
Yes, many people consider it "just a car" and that is the concern.

I park the same way you do and came out to a bunch of fluid all over my car. Was sticky and clear. Someone did it on purpose and for no reason. They better be glad I didn't catch them.

As an older guy what I have learned is no one cares about your stuff anymore, there is no respect for other people's things.

they just don't give a shit about other people's "things".

There is no answer.l.

Damn, that would piss me off big time. What's up with idiots like that? People like that need some serious beat down on their asses. :paddle:

I've had someone admit that they purposely park next to nice cars who park far away. Some people are just a-holes.
Some people have to mess with other people to somehow make themselves feel better. Definitely some mental issues going on when people have to act like that.

Watched a lady in an underground parking garage in downtown Boston near TD garden try to park her massive Suburban in a space reserved for fuel efficient vehicles. Unfortunately, next to that OPEN space was a space taken up by a beautiful 7 series Black BMW with the other side sheer wall. She tried to maneuver that tank into that tiny space at least three times all the while scraping and battering that poor Beemer while myself and a handful of onlookers watched in horror. She completed her "parking", squeezed out of the door, and proceeded to just waltz away while pretending that she didn't do anything wrong. We called the police and waited there until they arrived to view the carnage (one guy got it all on video, the Beemer owner was a circuit court judge BTW).

Knock on wood, but haven't had any dings yet. I usually park out in No Man's land too, but every now and then, I usually find other Mustangs or the occasional Camaro or Challenger parking next to or around me. And actually one time, had an Ferrari F430 park next to me too and while he plenty other better spots to choose from, but planted it right next to mine.
This I don't mind cause I'd like to assume that they, like me, know how most other car people park and won't worry about getting a ding.
The optimistic side of me would always like to think that the eventual C7 or Porsche that happened to park next to me would park to where door dings are avoidable and dings from me are avoidable as well. This has worked for me for many years now.
If only this mindset was shared with many other drivers...

I too park very far away and I have had a few nice cars park next to me when there are 30+ spots to park in. My mom took my car a few weeks ago and parked in the middle of nowhere with plenty of empty spots around and of course an older man and his wife pull in right next to her in a brand new Benz. The wife proceeds to kick her door open so hard the door flew open with such force it actually flung back and closed. Thank god my mom noticed her kicking it open and quickly reversed avoiding my car being damaged. The woman couldn't see through my tint to see someone was sitting in the car. My mom flew out of the car and confronted the careless women with a few choice words and proceeded to park somewhere else.

I had a specific incident a month or two ago. I HAD to make an emergency run to Wal-Mart (hate that place to begin with) because it was the only store open that late. I parked waaaay out, under a street light (with camera attached) just to be safe. I came out, no longer than 15 mins later, to find some asshole parked his POS Hyundai right next to me. SO, i decided to flip up his wiper blades and left a lil saliva on his door handle. :D That will teach him (hopefull ) the next time he decides to be "cute" and park on top of a nicer vehicle when there is ample parking else where.
