The Veterans parade is coming up and I usually haul dignitary's in my 69 mustang convertible and they sit on the boot/back of the seat. I was thinking of driving the 2016 this year, but I have never seen anyone sit back on one of the newer mustangs. If I do it should I reinforce it somehow? Or is it strong enough as it is?

Booster seats would make more sense to me, the back seats are already raised above the fronts (well I have the fronts in the lowest setting because Im tall) so just get something to sit in the seat to raise them up a bit and it should work just fine.

Sitting them on the headrests would be uncomfortable, sitting them on the roof behind that could easily cause damage that wont get immediately noticed, so Id avoid both of those options.

As you can see I have the roll bar in place and a booster would just put them right at the bar.

Feet in seat, butt on headrest seems the only way to go. You could have them stand facing backward and lean on the light bar.....maybe

I actually googled this once, and from what I have gathered is that people have been sitting on the top for generations without any damage so...

Also if it's like any of the older Mustangs, the seat cushion can be removed so you can just stand on the bare metal instead of sitting on the top.

The back seat is just clipped in basically and can be easily removed, it would have been removed to install his roll bar (although it looks like the one that specifically says its not a safety roll bar at all).

I have used my 1969 convertible mustang in the past, but it was built with thick steal and I never worried once. I just added padding to the top, but it does not have head rest it is all semi flat. As you can see it has the roll bar as well, so they just sat on the top. The 2016 does not seem nearly as tough in many areas structurally. But it is faster, and easy to drive. The 1969 does ok most of the way, but the last half a mile, it is very hot and always pukes after I get to the end. It never gets hot other times, just parades. I really don't want a blown head gasket or worse just for a parade, is why I am looking at driving my wife's car. I just wanted the one photo but can't get rid of the second one.

If anyone is interested I have found that the panel is an aluminum composite and can bend and break the rear glass from having someone sit on it.

"We are also assured that the mechanism is structurally supportive of reasonable parade queen mass."
What about the fat, overweight, mayor who needs to be sitting right next to the parade queen?

My 15 was the show car for my dealership and was used in at least 2 parades. Im pretty sure they just had the people sitting with the feet in the seat and the butts on the lid

I am using a 24” x 24” plywood platform. I put a 1 1/2” shim on one side and wrapped the whole thing with carpet. When I place it over the top boot the shim portion rests on the trunk lid and the front rests on the rear seat back. This distributes the weight away from the convertible top. I used this previously on a 1973 Mustang convertible for fear the rear glass would break from someone’s butt. This platform appears to work well with my 2017 GT Convertible.
