So I have on order a DIB painted front grille emblem on order from RPI that should be arriving the beginning of June. I would love to have a matching DIB emblem on my decklid to replace the chrome one that's there now. I haven't found anyone selling painted replacements so I'm thinking my only option is to paint it myself.

So my question to the general populace is what's my best option?

1. Is there a plastidip that matches DIB? I'm thinking the easy spray on/peel off process would make this the easiest option, but I want it to match my DIB color.
2. Should I just get DIB paint from Dr. Color Chip or some other source and paint it? Do I need to do anything to the chrome emblem first to make the paint look properly DIB?
3. Some other option that I'm unaware of?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Sand the chrome with 500 grit, then acid etch the chrome with hydrochloric acid then paint it. I did my front pony and side 5.0 badges this way and it stuck well no chipping no issues.

That already sounds above my comfort level. Did you use a mechanical sander or just sandpaper and your hand? Where the heck did you get hydrochloric acid from and how did you apply it? Did you just put it in the cracks/creases or all over it?

Hydrochloric acid is available at any swimming pool supply store. You might also find small containers at a pharmacy - ask the pharmacist. Also any paint store.

Far easier to just scuff the shine with a 3M green Scotchbrite pad.
Be sure to clean up real good after with alcohol.
Then hit it with a light coat of self etching primer ([FONT=&quot]Rust-Oleum makes this, avail @ any hardware or home imprv store).
Lightly sand with 3000 grit if needed, then apply your color coat.

By hand and Lowes and Home Depot carry hydrochloric acid as well as any pool store.

The rear emblem is just plastic. Just sand, primer, paint.

Thank you all for the info so far. Would I get the paint from Dr. Color Chip, or is there some better source to get it?
