I've not tried them because I've never driven a manual car, but what happens if I shift up or down once then stop? Will the computer take over again by itself?
The computer will stop you wrecking your car and will shift for you eventually, but it's hardly smooth once you've enabled proper manual mode , just switch to drive mode if you're bored of doing the shifting, shift it back in S if you want the power but lay off touching the paddle shifters - Maybe there's a way of going back to auto in S without changing the drive mode. If there is I don't know what it is.

That's the part I was wondering about mostly, I've switched from D to S and back after paddle shifting and it stayed showing the gear but I wasn't sure if t he computer would kick back in if I stopped manual shifting so I kept it going until I stopped.

If you try to shift fast from s to d it will lag a few seconds.
