I own a 2012 Ford Mustang v6. Very confused. This code doesn’t appear on the OBD2 scanner unless the check engine light is on. When I have a fault, it’s usually the wrench light that turns on, but this doesn’t kick off a code.

Being afraid, I initially turned off the car, restarted it and the car ran fine. Whenever the wrench came on, I would hear the engine rumbling when came to a stop, and I would shut the car off. Upon turning the car back on, the car would run normally. Whenever I accelerated, the wrench would pop on and then the check engine light would go off. After leaving the car off for a few hours, I return to no check engine light and the repair shop can’t figure out the problem minus the check engine light going off the next day. Very frustrating.

Would a good repair shop be able to diagnose an issue with the throttle body issue minus the P2111 code? Should I just change the throttle body component?

The throttle body wiring might be fraid, or it might be dirty and need of a good cleaning. You can also look for witness marks where the blade is rubbing or getting stuck.

I'd clean it first, as the code indicates it is getting stuck open.

Can a repair shop fix a throttle body... yes. Try not to drive the car.

Took her to the shop today. They took her apart and found a clean throttle body (had been cleaned out 2 months ago after the p2111 code went off). I don’t drive the car often. It’s out of the country. Upon returning, the car’s wrench light went on again, but without the engine light going off, they can’t perform the diagnostic. Got the engine light on and they ran full scan. P2111 code again. Wasn’t a wiring, nor module issue.

Just a throttle body with 170K miles on it after 13+ years. Part needs to be retired. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thanks!
