One thing I want to get before my car arrives is a camera fitted to look over my drive.
It's a minefield out there of different camera systems.
Any recommendations for one with good night vision? Would also be great to have access via smart phone (iPhone) to look at live video at any time. Movement notification would also be great too
For where it will be installed it has Ethernet near by connected to my home network. My main computer is Mac so needs to be compatible.

So where do I start??

I have a Zmodo 720p camera, it's inside at the minute until I get around to mounting it outside. Was fairly inexpensive and produces a decent picture, night vision is also reasonable.

It's currently linked to my Synology NAS using the surveillance app on there, recordings stored onto 1tb hdd. At the minute I just have motion detection turned on rather than constant recording.

I have been using Netgear Arlo for the past week - brilliant notification system and can be set to record on movement detection rather than all the time.

Notification go to email or straight to the app, and you can view live streams from a webpage or from the app.

Quality is good too, and it is completely wireless so no cables anywhere.

I recommend looking into it.

Im hoping to hardwire my Thinkware this afternoon so from a security video pov i should hope to be covered!

How is the night vision? Decent enough quality?
Also with the notifications, are they accurate? I had a ring video doorbell and I got so many "ghost" notifications that I sent it back.

Thats is a sample of the reduce video quality to save power. the full HD comes through much better.

nightvision via infrared is good, i don't have any saved videos though.

of course i am hoping i never have to use this.

batteries should last 3 months according to most of the reviews.

Also how long are you batteries lasting. Shame they can't be hard wired. Looks like a good simple system. It's definitely on the list. Thanks
Wireless only & battery powered would wipe it straight from my list. Can't have a sensible security system based off batteries.
Wireless cameras are also incredibly easy to jam/hack and susceptible to variation in wireless signal.

Night vision is probably very important. Many cameras show good by day but suck by night.

Looks like they do a wired version so there is another option. The search continues but that seems like quite a good option

I have a cheap and cheerful Yale system - Y804A-HD 8-Channel - came with 4 cameras, added 2 more and it would take another 2. Got it when it was on sale so it ran to about £370 all in. They claim to be easy fit and this would be true other than the cable which had to be routed all round the outside of the house/garage in conduit. I'm not kidding myself that this would stop a serious ne'er-do-well but it should be sufficient to make an opportunist move on to the next house. It's 720HD so picture is excellent in daytime and adequate at night. It'll do motion sensing record and there are smartphone apps. No idea about connection from PC as never tried to (I have it connected to its own monitor).
Example of daytime/night vision attached. It is widescreen but this is how snapshots on the phone come out.

Same. Got a cheapish one from Amazon, about £250 I think. On its own monitor & recording onto hard drive all the time.
Have the whole drive (can be multiple cars), porch/front door, sideway & gate & back garden.
All displayed at the same time on the monitor & sits on my desk in my office.
Cabled around the house tacked above head height. I tried wifi cams before but signal was crap with some of the cameras; & I just have a normal 4-bed detached box.
I work from home so use it to have fair warning on courier drivers etc.

Used it the other day in fact when we repeatedly watched an 11 year old boy who lives up the street shoot up my drive, skimming through the gap between my wife's car & mine, right unto the porch! I got the tape, recorded it on my mobile & went out to bollock him. He took it well (I was polite but I think he shit himself :clap2:).
Anyway, recording was proof in case I got his dad 'on me' ... He's a big chap & I'm not
Worth gettin mate, often used to glance over to look at my Jag. Must admit, I don't tend to do that now I have a Corsa sitting there :headbonk:
