Embarrassed but, need to ask this question. Once in my life I ordered a car, a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Formula, but cannot 100% remember if I negotiated the sale price of the car when I ordered it or when I took delivery (remember the sale price though, lol $25,100). I'm almost certain I worked out the purchase price the day I ordered it. Anyway, boring details aside. I've been waiting patiently for these 18 GTs to show up around where I live. Seems they are arriving and I want to drive one, and based on the folks here and videos and such, I'm thinking the test drive is just going to be a formality at this point, and am going to order one. I have some time this Saturday to drive one, but no time to dick around with the negotiation process. Thus my kind of question here. Do I have to negotiate the price when ordering or upon delivery? If one has a choice, is there an inherent price advantage doing it one way or the other?

Thanks in advance.

You can negotiate before ordering but it's pretty much just a handshake agreement until the final numbers are put on paper at delivery. Try to get the agreed upon price documented in an email exchange and make sure your deposit is refundable if they don't stick to it.

Ask them if they will agree to $500 or more under invoice plus incentives available at delivery. If they won't then you may be just as well off to get an X-plan PIN and go with X-plan.
