Although this may be a question suited to my dealer, I did want to get some opinions here about ordering in advance. Right now my plan is to test drive and choose my options, but I have feeling that to get the car optioned exactly how I think I want, it will need to be ordered (GT Premium, Magnetic, No PP, 6spd, 401A, Red interior, 3.55 rear). That being said, I want to do the test drive as soon as possible (before November, or at least before snow sticks to the concrete). From there, I don't want to take delivery of the car until the third weekend in April.

Will a dealer do an order 5 months in advance and not have it potentially sitting on the lot for 2 to 3 months if it only takes 8 weeks to manufacture and ship? Inversely, I am wondering if 20-22 weeks will be long enough that it will arrive on time. Some people have been waiting a long time for a VIN, but I do know they JUST started production not very long ago. I'd be hoping demand would slow a bit over winter since I imagine most northern states and Canada won't be ordering too many RWD sports cars in the winter. I'd like mine right on time, not early, and not late, if possible.

Thoughts?

Dealers will take orders in advance, certainly -- some of us here ordered three or four months ago on cars that won't be shipping for another three or four more months yet. But they'll be unlikely to let it sit on the lot for a couple of months if you're unwilling to take delivery.

You will need to special order that car, because it's almost certain that no others will be made to those specs for stock orders. But, keep in mind that special orders usually cut off in January or February, so if you don't order before then, you're likely going to have to wait and order a 2016 model.
