Raceseng Slammer

My Raceseng Slammer arrived tonight. It's a beautiful piece of hardware and the weight is unlike any shift knob I've ever had in my hand at 575 grams.

Some problems...

It comes with a threaded adapter to put on the shifter. They recommend blue Loctite and to tighten it down. Well, that sounds great until you run into the shift lockout collar. So I had to back it off significantly to get reverse to engage. It was to the point that the adapter didn't have a lot of grip and I could loosen/tighten with my fingers. With 575 g of mass, I don't see that Loctite holding up much with spirited shifting.

The adapter has a screw on the top that's meant to be the stopper for the shift knob itself. The idea is to screw the knob as tight as you can then back off to get the shift gate pattern the right way. Again, I had a reverse lockout collar issue and had to back it off several turns. The screw is supposed to be turned equal turns to how many times you'd have to turn the knob so it can be tightened down on the screw. Great idea, but in practice the screw isn't long enough to make it work.

I really want to keep this shifter but it's going to take some messing with it to get it set up right. I don't trust that the adapter will hold tight, and if I can't tighten the knob down as intended it's obviously not going to work. I sent Raceseng an email to see what solutions they might have, so we'll see how their customer service is. So far they've been responsive pre-sale and shipped quickly.

Damn that's really nice. How much bigger is that than the stock knob? Is it a few inches taller too?

It's probably twice the size overall? I should have taken a side by side pic. Since it's not completely installed I can do that tonight.

It's taller and fatter. At least 3x the weight I would guess, too.

Update on the install issues:

I have a Steeda shifter, so anyone ordering from Raceseng should mention if they have an aftermarket shifter. They have a shim that goes with the adapter to raise the height and it can be tightened down. They've been great at getting this resolved.

Looks Great SR56!

I love the concept, but that thing looks like a beast! I'd be afraid I would break my stock shifter! Still a front runner consideration for upgrading my shift knob. Please keep us inform on how you like it!

They've got a lot of options, many lighter weight but still with more mass than stock. I liked a few different ones, but in the end I liked the brushed look and wanted something bigger hoping I won't be forcing my hand to scrunch up on that small stock knob. They have another one with the same shape that uses a Delrin black cover. It would be the same size, but lighter since it only uses a metal core. I liked that option because it would let you swap out within their line.

I went with the GT350 knob. You can get it from CJ Pony with the correct thread for the GT so you don't need to drill and tap it. The install video posted on the CJ Pony site advises to tighten the knob until it bottoms out and then counter clockwise until the shift gate orientation is correct. When I followed the video, there wasn't enough travel on the reverse lockout. I got a little more than 13 complete rotations and then countered back to get the gate straight. The GT350 knob has the same weight as the OEM GT knob.
Had mine on for a few months, still love it but it makes the throws longer compared to the regular GT knob. I have the boomba short throw shifter coming soon so hopefully that fixes that

So does this knob fit correctly? I've been wanting to go with the GT350 style, but I read it isn't a perfect fit (though i didn't check on CJ Pony Parts). I also checked the American Muscle Version and the reviews said that one didn't fit well, either.

The GT350 from CJPP has already been modified to fit correctly on the Mustang GT. They have drilled and tapped it for the GT thread. The GT350 knob sits a little higher than the GT knob but it works fine. Check out the video on CJPP. The only difference I noted in the video was that I couldn't thread it until it bottomed out and then counter to straighten the gate. When I bottomed it out, I couldn't get the reverse lockout to fully engage. I was able to get 13 full rotations which was 4 short of the 17 when it bottomed. I put on the blue loc-tite and it's been great.

No problem, remember to pull the black band from the bottom of the GT350 knob. I used a pick to pull it, took less than 2 seconds. I think that was also in the video.

And just make sure to do a trial test fit before you use loc-tite. I think I was also able to get 13 rotations in. I thought AM has a replica now that is supposed to fit perfectly? Guess not! But OEM anyway

I was going to consider going for that, but the reviews said that the fit was less than stellar. So I'll give this one a shot and report back

Ashiko from Raceseng in translucent red. Hopefully I wont run into any problems on my MGW shifter lol. As stated above, this shift knob is really heavy lol.
