Now that a few of you have got your cars, and are not using the Ford supplied plate holder, what are you using to stick both plates on with - 3M tape, Halfords adhesive pads, velcro ?

And what are you doing at the back end, building up using pads so it sits over the two lumps ?

I am fitting smaller road legal plates so I'm not to sure if it will make them easier or harder to stick at the front because of the crease in the bumper ?

Any advice welcome

I used aluminium plates (thinner, lighter, and easier to bend for the front), degreased the area, sticky pads, and I put my rear plate below but up against the 'nipples'. Some pics here http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50215&page=48 so you can see what you think. Some think it makes the rear plate low, but I'm OK with it.

I used velcro and have had no problems. Opted not to have the factory brackets as looks to bulky and no drilling. Also velcro easy to take off.

Just put my rear plate on with Halfords 6mm pads and the plate fits over the top of those nipples with clearance.

Which stickies and pads did you use ?
I meant a sticky number plate.

Pads for the rear were just random ones that came with the ally rear plate. Used about 3 per side to lift the plate clear. Looks so much better IMO when they're hidden.

Halfords Number Plate Fixers - 6mm Adhesive Spacer Pads
http://www.halfords.com/motoring/nu.../number-plate-fixers-6mm-adhesive-spacer-pads

My Mustang is Black and the dealer fitted the front and rear mounting brackets which was fine by me and the number plates were stuck on using thin double sided sticky pads.

We were on our way to the Highlands and were getting fuel on M6 and had a group of bikers come over to admire the Mustang and one mentioned we didn't have rear plate so it must have fallen off on the M6. Luckily I had a scan of my V5C on my phone so we ragged down the Shap Pass into Kendal and Halfords made up a number plate on the spot which was stuck on using Halfords 1mm pads.

When we got back home I checked front and rear and both were coming unstuck again.

The problem is that both the front and rear mounting brackets have a curved surface, have raised dimples and are made from a stick resistant nylon material.

I re-fixed both front and rear number plates using Halfords 6mm pads and they are still stuck firmly and the 6mm is also a good cushion for when I park against the fence.
