Noise from Tranny

So whenever I am in first or reverse and am moving forward or backward and disengage the transmission (by pressing the clutch) I hear a loud noise from the transmission from what I would assume is the disengagement of the gear, its like a metallic sound (not grinding or thudding). Is this normal?

Right. The transmission along with the clutch are sounds more easily heard when transitioning between 1st and reverse and back again. Sounds I have heard in numerous manual trans vehicles (especially those with mechanical linkage) that I have owed in the past.
If the OP is overly concerned a Ford tech could give a quick listen without even making an appt.
