Very interesting and curious to read about the refreshed 2016 Ford Explorer and the above regarding the new Sony 500 watt audio system straight from the Ford site !! Wonder what this all is about and how it compares to the Shaker. Its sorta a bummer when you buy a new car and then some other new exciting option comes out that wasn't available when you ordered your car !!!

Will this awesome new Sony audio system be available for the 16' Mustang???

I am on my 2nd Explorer lease, first with the 2011 and now a 2014, and both have had th a Sony system. It is pretty darn good (i'll bet the newer one is even better)but not likely going to show up in the Mustang, at least not this year anyway. For some reason Ford wants to stick with this Shaker system.

I know the original Shaker 500 and 1000 in the 05 mustang was made by Clarion so I assume it is the same. Clarion and Sony handle Ford's stock and premium systems.

Yes it does! Looks like it is only available on the new Explorer Platinum which starts at 52K. I tried to build every other model of the 2016 and there is no option to upgrade to the new system. Maybe that will change as it gets closer to release.

They have been using Premium Sony sound systems in all the "Pedestrian" vehicles ie: Fusion, Edge, Explorer etc. For years. I don't see them changing pace now.
