Hi folks, new member here.

I just bought a 16 GT with performance pack/Recaro in magnetic Silver. Super stoked!!
Goal is to have a streetable track monster(roadcourse).
Only 500 miles on the car.

Ive heard a couple different opinions - one that I should not really get on the car until after some break-in (varying from 1000 miles to 7500 and an oil change)
Other folks have said the engine is best broken in by driving it like you stole it - even going so far as to say if I 'dont break it in fast, it will always be slow' !! :headbang:

Is there a concensus on break-in period?
I suppose I should try I search on it right?

Anyhow, love the Mustang.. Past track experience was with Nissan and Honda (96 Maxima and 2000 s2000) and this is a rocket!:D

On the two Coyote Mustangs that I've had, I believe that the most important thing you can do for these engines is to replace the original Ford semi- synthetic oil with a top tier full synthetic. There are some really good ones out now. I only use Royal Purple in my Mustangs...but what do I know? I only worked and represented a major oil producer/manufacturer for 30 years!

Is there a concensus on break-in period?
Not hardly. But most people will at least agree to not beat on an engine before it has fully warmed up and to avoid driving at a steady rpm and load. Beyond that it gets into your trust that the clearances inside the engine are sufficient to allow heating that may be greater or less uniform while the engine is still making all of its internal parts friendly with one another on a microscopic level. Production machining isn't that good, castings shift slightly as the stresses from the casting operation are relieved, etc.

Don't expect a search to provide any consensus.

Break in isn't critical. If it were, the instructions would be extremely explicit. The key points are:

1. Get the oil warm before working the engine hard
2. Vary the engine load and RPM
3. Vary the speed of the vehicle as much as possible.

Basically drive normally.

For the GT350 Ford says no EXTENDED periods of WOT within the first 100 mile (implying that brief periods of WOT are OK). They also no no competition level driving within the first 1000 miles.

I drove my GT350 from OK to CA for its break-in, shifting gears, flooring it as I left toll booths, and trying to vary the speed a little on the highway. By the time I got home I had 1700 miles on the car and shortly after did my first track day.

Some cars have very specific break-in requirements, but the Mustang's seem to be pretty relaxed. My recommendation is to just have fun driving the car, keeping in mind the rules of thumb above.

I drove my Boss like a Granny for the first 1000 miles or so. I think it really helped. My car does not use much oil...
