Hello all, I am currently in the market for a 12th gen 2011-14 F150, but I am having trouble deciding on which motor to go with. Of course I am familiar with the coyote, my wife has the 3.5 Ecoboost in her Explorer, but what about the boss 6.2 in the Lariat Limited? I am worried about the longevity of the Ecoboost motor, so any high mileage/ low maintenance stories would be uplifting! I have only had ABS module problems in my wife's Explorer, but the drive train seems solid (silly, but I feel more confident with the eco in the Explorer, but I sum it up to being the first owner), while the coyote has performed flawlessly at 34xxx. I won't really be hauling anything other than a baby and occasional trailer btw, so reliability and mid range will be paramount.

Any ownership experience with this generation of F150s is welcomed! Also, If you felt comfortable I was wondering if you could share how much your OTD price was because I am looking for used models under $24,000, and I am surprised how 110xxx (4x4 alt models etc.) examples are still fetching low 20s.

I have stalked the F150 forums, but I feel more comfortable here, so thanks for the help in advanced! :ford:

If you haven't seen this, watch it. Most people who talk trash about an ecoboost motor do it out of ignorance. They have never driven one most likely.

I had a 2013 5.0 for 3 years. It was a great truck with zero issues.

Only thing I read about the ecoboost is that under steady long term driving and the correct weather, it might build up condensation in the intercooler and then when you stomp on the gas to pass, the engine stumbles with all the water entering it.

Just put 81K on my 2012 3.5 EcoBoost F150 this week. Out of six pick-ups, this is my favorite. I’ve had zero issues (knocks on wood) and would buy the latest generation in a heartbeat, but I have no reason since there’s nothing wrong with the one I’ve got! Good luck with your search.

I had a '14 5.0, now '15 3.5 Ecoboost F150. I loved the 14, nothing wrong with it, but the 5.0 did struggle a little bit on the long inclines near my house. I went with the 5.0 because of my Ecoboost worries, but after driving my '15, I had to have it. I'd have no problem picking up another '14 in either engine configuration, but I would probably go with the 3.5 if I had to do it over.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I've noticed that the Eco is also being sold for less in the Dallas, FTW area. I absolutely love the way 3.5 Eco responds in an Explorer. I am worried about the water logging issue reported on some Eco's, and I have read issues with the cam phaser failing.

Did you take a major depreciation hit, seems like you were sold to trade out of the Yote for a one year newer model! Did you test drive any of the 6.2L engines?

It was more than just going to the Eco that sold me. The interior was much nicer, and I liked the new body lines much more. I fell in love with the Atlas concept a few years back, so as soon as I saw a silver one on the lot, I had to have it.

The depreciation wasn't terrible, but I did go through a volume dealer. The trade was right at blue book value and we (my wife) haggled them down considerably on the 15 since it was a leftover.

I didn't drive the 6.2L, because it was non existent in my area except for in the Raptor. I had a buddy with one, and it was a nice motor for sure. Tons of grunt and a great sound. Just didn't feel like paying Raptor prices.
