Howdy.

So I'm going to swap out my OEM [upper] grill with an aftermarket that needs to be finished. I'm thinking Plastidip would be a good option - the stock upper GT grill is gloss, I'm thinking Plastidip would be a good match with the lower grill, that's just flat black plastic.

Anyone done a top grill? In particular a MY18+ (I'd like to see how the flat black works vs. the OEM gloss black). I found a few photos in some older threads, thought maybe a fresh thread would get some new contributions. :rockon:

FWIW, this grill is identical to OEM, just no pony, I'm going to be cutting out the corners and installing a pair of Velossa ducts :)

Plastidip is a good temporary option but if you want to keep it that way, use something more durable.

What grille are you using? Link? I just haven't seen one yet that's identical to OEM. Thanks!

Plastidip will get chipped up. Though if black over black, you may not notice.

I had plasti dipped wheels at one time on car. What a mess. It's like having a giant scab. All of a sudden some it starts to peel and it drives you nuts until you've peeled that whoe thing of. But a grill is nothing like wheels in regards to chips rash, so might work out perfect.

Sounds like maybe I'd be better off with a painted/clearcoated finish.

Not in a rush, maybe I'll hit up a paint shop next week.

@Copperhead73 Got my ducts :D

Grats! Pics when it's done, please!

I received a shipment notification for mine. I am itching to get after it.

I'm going to put splitter support rods on while I have the front end off. Hoping it won't be too tacky. Once all that is done, going to get the racing stripes I've been putting off for a year.

Do the stripes side to side vs. front to back, that'll be different ... :crazy:

Yeah, Velossa Tech is here in Florida so I got mine in basically a day after they shipped, they look awesome, great orange color match. I think going with a more muted flat black grill will really make them pop.

OK, cut out one corner, went well, bottom side had a visible seam at the perfect cutting location, when I just pencilled in a line around the whole triangle, Dremel, fresh cutting wheel. I'll clean up the edge with a little sandpaper. I'll probably cut out the other one today, held up the orange duct, wow, looks awesome.

So I took the piece I cut out, and did a "test paint" with my Plastidip, just 3 coats, waited about 10 minutes between. Looks great! It really matches the lower front grill, and the ducts being glossy orange, really pop against the flat black.

More to come ...
