I took it in to see the warranty man at the dealer on Friday. He reckons it's dirt under the paint......not convinced myself after reading the US forums on the issue.
Anyway he's taken photos and sent them off to Ford. Watch this space.

My dealer eventually admitted to a hair under the paint on my bonnet... so all is not lost... fixed within 6 weeks...

i had the same on mine on my 2016 ecoboost, started on leftside above the light exactly like you described back in july 2017, Ford took it away and repair the area and all was good until 3 months later in Oct 2017 and the issue return and this time under the bonnet on the right side there were signs of bubbling, after a few weeks and many pictures sent to them they agreed the bonnet needs to be replaced and was completed January 2018.
always have a look to this day when washing the car to check if the dreaded bubble returns from the dead.

I noticed this in April on MY15 and right away I was granted a new hood, they installed it 2 weeks ago and either it's just the thought of it I don't know but it's obvious to me that my car has a new hood.
Also the clear-coat is not that strong I thing, a bird dropping etched my paint in about 30 minutes time.

Do you think once the three year warranty is up, there's no come-back or is this kind of thing covered by the anti-corrosion thing? I recall this was really limited and you had to have a hole the size of your fist to qualify or something. Surely corrosion on a 3-year old modern car is pretty shocking.

The warranty terms in the service booklet that comes with the car state, ‘If the paint surface of the vehicle body requires attention due to a manufacturing defect, the necessary repairs will be performed completely free of charge by any authorised dealer, regardless of any change in ownership during the warranty period’.

It also states in the service book that ‘you must have the bodywork of your vehicle checked no later than every 24 months or every 2nd service and then every 12 months thereafter’. I very much doubt Ford checked mine during its second service! Maybe you have to pay extra for a body and paint check?

I’d like to think Ford ‘might’ take responsibility way before perforation occurs but then perhaps there is quite a big gap between the point corrosion takes place to the point that it perforates the metal so I’d imagine Ford will do their best to reject any claims on cars outside the 3 year period. Paint warranty is 3 years 60,000 miles and perforation is 12 years.

Dead right though, corrosion on a 3 year old car is wrong but this certainly looks like a manufacturing fault on the face of it.

Thanks

The thank button seems to have gone on this new format, am I missing it? There's a "like" button, but they can save that gormless shit for the likes of facebook
