Those OEM mufflers are actually very well designed.
Yes, have someone fit the Stainless Bros. dual/dual in the X-pipe location. The center to center is wider but with headers that's any easy fix. I'd suggest who ever you have install put in a H-style crossover. If your using the factory cat back then the 2.5" Stainless Bros. is the better option, more packing material vs. 3.0".
Do you know the spacing of the stock vs the stainless bro duel resonator?

So let's say you have Kooks green catted headers with the OEM adapters. I'd need to get the 3" connect pipes but how would that connect to the Stainless Bros 2.5" if I want to keep my Mach 1 axle back? Wouldn't I want the 3" version with the 3" Kooks pipes? I guess I'm not visually seeing this in my head without some modifications.

Edit: I think I found the answer. This would go on the outer ports of the 3" in/out muffler.
