I installed your catted dp and now the check engine comes on every 5-7 days is this normal code is p0420 (i think) I thought having the cat would take care of this.
Definitely not normal, I have the MAP catless dp with no lights.

Do you have a tune? I believe Mishimoto said you had to have a tune with their pipe .

As noted by Glenn, we do highly recommend a tune when using our downpipe. This includes both the catted and catless options. From what I understand, Cobb does not currently have a tune to support larger turbo-back exhaust systems, which is likely the cause for the code. We recommend a custom tune to provide optimal performance as well as engine safety. Assuming you are in CA, 91 octane use provides even more reason for a custom tune with our downpipe.

Shoot us a PM if we can help out any further!

Just waiting for black Friday to pick up something but def catted for me.

Isn't a DP considered a stage 1.5/2 upgrade? The Cobb maps definitely wouldn't cover that imo. $250 doesn't just fix your problem by going through Adam, it also gets you more power now and more power later once you have your IC in. Free revisionssssss... go for it!

The stages of tune have gotten really fuzzy with newer cars.
Stage 1 used to be the basic bolt-ons you could do to a car without a custom tune. Usually Intake and catback. Back in the old days you couldn't just flash an ecu, you needed a replacement stand alone like a power fc or motec, a piggy back like the e-manage blue/ultimate, or a new rom chip in your ecu, most could not be done over email either so a tune used to be a big deal in time and money well over 1k in my Skyline.

Older pre obd II MAF sensor cars(Like my Skyline and Supra) could get away with an Intercooler and Catless downpipe without trouble or throwing codes.

Stage two was stuff you needed a tune for, especially MAP cars and could include turbo swaps but without opening up the motor.

Stage Three was stuff like cams and really big turbos and basically the limit of the stock engine.

I sat it's blurry now because newer cars basically need a tune for almost everything to run right/safe and Tuning the ECU is cheap and easy, Plug in the accessport with a map from halfway across the world, no tools required.
Stage 2 on an Ecoboost will take you to the limit of the stock engine.

All that being said Cobb advertises their Stage 1 tune for an Intake and Catback so they are following the classic model.

None of this is gospel, I think if you ask 3 people what stage 1 is you can get 3 different answers, and almost no one can agree where stage 2 and 3 even begin or end.

already have the Adam tune just waiting to install all at once, ATM I/c and MAP charge pipes and turbosmart BOV. But I thought the cobb tune should have covered the Mishimoto d/p with cat. I guess I was wrong again. first turbo car first tuner car. I'm old school 9.30 et 502 bigblock 93 LX and 11.20 et 93 Procharger Teal Cobra

Tune help?

So, as a new turbo guy and brand new to the tune world, who wants to help point me in the right direction of equipment, etc., to make it happen?

Keep in mind I'm in CA.

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately we have not fitted this with any aftermarket exhaust systems, other than the CBE we are designing. That being said, we do include an adapter to install this with the stock exhaust. If the front portion of your CBE features a stock pipe diameter, it should fit. We also include an adapter to create a smooth, unrestricted transition from our DP to CBE, resulting in improved flow.

Hope that helps!

any ETA on that CBE or is it a long way out?

also - today i threw a CEL a few days after installing the downpipe. I have the cobb tune so I'm assuming it's because the tune isn't mean for a downpipe. I'm gonna check the code when I get a chance

So why did I pay extra for a cat that still throws a CEL, My understanding is the dual O2 sensors measure the exhaust before and after the cat which makes me think the cat is not doing its job tune or no tune

We do not currently have a solid ETA on the CBE. We are making a couple additional tweaks to fitment in order to provide reliable, repeatable manufacturing. As soon as we have an ETA on our first batch, we will update the forums.

Yes, a specific downpipe tune will be required to extinguish the CEL resulting from the rear oxygen sensor readings. If I recall correctly, the current Cobb tunes available do not cater towards vehicles with larger downpipes.

The cat installed is in place for smell reduction and visual inspection purposes. It is a high flow cat, meaning it will not be quite as efficient as the factory unit and is likely to operate outside of the thresh hold of the factory oxygen sensor, causing the CEL. To eliminate the light, a tune which turns off the functionality of the rear sensor is necessary.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

I going to call BULLSHIT on this ! If I'm following this correctly I wasted money on a cat that's purpose is smell reduction and visual inspection ! is that your real reasoning ? get real, you didn't mention any of that in your sales brochure. This thing was mfgr'd in California. "if I recall correctly, the current Cobb Tunes do not cater towards vechicles with larger down pipes" BS is it really any different than a cat back or resonator delete ? air in air out , if I just wanted the light turned off I would have bought a catless down pipe. You charged a premium price for Kmart quality cat. I regret not building my own!

Another note about the rear O2 sensor is that it doesn't only make sure you cat is working, but it also plays a role in the calibration of your stock front wide band o2 sensor.

Over time your wide band will begin to drift, the rear O2 can sense this and then the ecu can make corrections accordingly.

I wouldn't recommend tuning the rear o2 out for the reason above. although I cant say how long these sensors are good for or how much drift is actually going to be experienced. Another reason to not tune it out is you at end up failing emissions testing with a 'not ready' for your rear O2 monitor.

My $.02, run a defouler. And don't tune emissions stuff out unless it's truly an off road vehicle.

The fact that you guys are using 3D printers to help develop this downpipe is bad azzz
