im having a pain in the butt issue. for some reason on the black paint on my mustang.every freaking micro fiber leaves like micro lint on the paint making it look like crap. I have detailed cars for over 10 years. so yes the car is smooth.clayed. coated. i used mckees coating over summer. i dont know if its a issue with the coating? i can use the same rags on my 08 xterra and they work perfect.

I used McKees coating as well, and since applying it I've washed (waterless and traditional), dried, and used them with a quick detailer, but I haven't noticed any lint, even under an LED.

How do you wash your microfibers? I know that sometimes they can pick up lint if you wash them with other fabrics. Maybe the coating or something else is attracting lint that doesn't otherwise stick on your Xterra.

I'd recommend washing them with warm water, liquid detergent, and without fabric softener by themselves, and drying them on low/no heat.

Where are you getting your MFs? I'm told that you really have to step it up in price to get no lint and anything at ChinaMart or similar is going to lint.

Are you using regular laundry detergent when you wash them or the special microfiber rag detergent? I never had good luck washing my MF towels with regular detergent..recently got some of that microfiber rejuvenator crap from AutoGeek so I'm going to give that a whirl today on some old towels and see how they come out.

I wash separately with either laundry det, dish soap, and sometimes a splash of vinegar. Clean but still lint like crazy but I do get mine from ChinaMart.

Regular detergents actually break down the microfiber material so it's not recommend you use laundry detergents or anything else other than what is specified for microfiber towels. Many don't know but microfiber towels are actually made from plastic, so it has to be treated in a specific way, not the same as what your t-shirt or pants would need.

Buying higher quality towels will certainly help out, but it sounds like you're washing them improperly which is breaking down the plastic material in the towel, allowing more lint to stick to the paint. Microfibers over time will be the most expensive thing you buy for detailing, which is why it's important that you wash them properly, that way you don't have to keep throwing away the ones that go bad.

The video below goes into detail about how to wash microfiber towels.

I use Chemical Guys microfibers and wash them with Tide Free & Gentle. I haven't had any problems. Are you using them brand new out of the pack, or washing them first?
