Way off the normal topics but with all the mechanical types on here maybe some ideas will surface. I have an 18ft 2 axle 7k flat bed trailer, it uses 1/2x20 wheel studs and white painted spoked wheels. Pretty standard stuff. Every time I take a wheel off the lug nuts come off hard like the threads are banged up, the studs seem ok but I have to run my thread chaser thru nuts to be able to put them back on by hand. They seem like the tapered end is squeezed as the chaser runs thru easy from the flat end till it gets to the cone end. They don't protrude thru the wheel so it doesn't seem like they are bottoming out. I wonder if the taper on trailer lug nuts is different than the ones I'm buying at auto parts store? does it every time but not every nut (most) and I replaced about half of them and made no difference next time. The wheels are not hub centric if that makes any difference. Any ideas? Thanks Jim
