What determines what the torque should be when tightening the lug nuts? 150 ft/lb has always sounded on the extreme side of things and I just got new lug nuts, which don't seem as heavy duty as the stock ones I am don't want to over torque them.

Is it the wheel (least likely IMO), the nut itself, the stud or a combo of the stud and the nut?

^ See above. The size of the bolt. Don't worry about it, just do it.

Its the stud size that determines, for aftermarket applications we do 100 ft lbs on the S550.
