How have the love bugs been in Florida the last few years. I heard they were going down and I’m making my drive out there shortly. If anybody can give me any information that would be great.
They sucked for me the last few years. Try and get them off of your car as soon as possible, as the acid in them can wreak havoc on paint. I remember riding my motorcycle one year and they seemed to be very attracted to the exhaust..
You will be on the east coast so it may be different, but we have seen a decline the last 2 years on Florida's west coast. We experiencing them generally late April/early May, and again around September. Last September they were almost non-existent.
We encounter them more so in non-urban areas where there's dense vegetation in close proximity to the roadway.
As the two preceding posters stated keep your vehicle waxed, or a with a quality ceramic coat applied, AND don't let them stay splattered on your car very long as their acidic composition will eat into your car's surface.
I live in Bradenton on the west coast of Florida and it has not been nearly as bad the past couple of years as it was years before... hope this year is the same!
I won’t be arriving in Florida till about mid June maybe a little earlier hopefully this will all be over until September. I’m still going to get the nose bra but hopefully I avoid the worst of it.
Hey Brett, one thing to keep up with when driving along A1A (Now named Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway). You can encounter a lot turbulence-blown sand along that stretch especially.
Case in point...My friend just purchased a brand new Harley-Davidson Sportster, and at the end of bike week we noticed the clearcoat on his wire wheels was extremely pitted from being sand-blasted. It may have been defective clearcoat by Harley-Davidson, but regardless, we were surprised, and I try to avoid sandy roads when given alternatives.
